Does anyone know of any tools that are easy to learn can be used to make games on a rather fast pace?

I'm looking for something that has the quality of Gamemaker, but also something that can run preferably on Linux or any OS.

Or maybe even a tool that is suited for targeting the production of video games for mobile devices?

I'll try searching around some more to see what I can dig up, but thanks a ton in advance.

EDIT: I know about Stenyl, Construct and all those easy to use tools but is there anything that's one step above those (excluding Gamemaker)?

If I forget to post a gamemaker type app in the App Store remind me. I have the name of it somewhere. I used it to play and review for PJ and it was pretty good and free-$2 ?
This is a Mac app for Macs only tho.
See the 'game development' links section of the gallery (report broken links  )

Unity maybe? I haven't used it myself so I can't comment on development speed or how fast it is to prototype stuff, but it's a properly powerful engine, popular with both indie and big name companies. It has a free version and it can publish to all desktop platforms, and at least Android, BlackBerry and iPhone.

http://www.godotengine.org/wp/?page_id=20 - Godot maybe? Only recently opensourced so doesn't have anywhere near the community of Unity, and probably somewhat rough around the edges.

Yes, I can do it but I always like to give all/any the option to get points and credit and all the glory :D

Because some don't know.

Hey, that's actually not a bad idea! I just took a look at it and it seems a bit overwhelming but I'm taking a look at it right now and it definitely seems learnable.

@surt
Ohhhhh, this looks fantastic (and cross platform, booya)! I'm going to give this a go and hopefully it will go well.
Thanks for the link, this looks great!

If I get some neat results with godot perhaps I'll post it in the news (unless surt wants to) and steal all the communities luv ;P

I tried fooling around with Stencyl earlier in the day though just for the heck of it, that didn't go so well. Their compiler flipped out when I hit the big green "TEST GAME" button :/
