This image was rejected. The message was confusing. Can anyone tell me what happened?

Some people may find it borderline as "not finished enough", seeing how there are stray pixels in the black outlines. But a definite reason to not accept it "as is" is the preview, which was a bilinear-filtered rescale.
I can't see much of your archer and fighter, but these seem to be a complete different medium (3D pre-rendered), and if it's the case, PixelJoint gallery is not the right site to showcase them.

My guess? Since this looks more like traditionally-created animation or oekaki-style art than actual pixel art, the piece ended up rejected on those grounds.

It lack controls on the pixel level. See cure's pixelart thread in the resource section.

Gallery is meant for finished work from my understanding, and the state of this looks unfinished to a point where it more closely resembles oekaki style more than pixel-art style as StoneStephenT said. Somehow there are people who manage to get their unfinished work posted to the gallery, which I don't understand, so maybe unfinished work is allowed.. I don't know. I guess this one just looks to be outside what is considered acceptable. More work on it could make it fit within the bounds I think.
