Hi guys! TLDR before anything else, I am an electronic music
producer/composer ( http://www.soundcloud.com/ruxton ) of 10 years but
decided I start working on my visual art to go with it.
This is
my second piece ever. I have no art skills, so everything is really just
trial and error. My logo is the skull mask (its supposed to represent a
degu skull, not sure if I nailed it). Its what I use as my "brand" for
my music, so I decided I needed to bring Rukkus (his name) to life in
sprite form so that someday, I can do music videos, games, etc featuring
him.

I
had no color set in mind when i did this so the colors may seem odd
together. Not sure how many colors I used but I wanna say like at
least.. 16?
I am very bad at backgrounds and things like that so any tips would be awesome! Let me know what I can do to improve, etc.
And
alas, thank you for this great community, ive been around but never
signed up. You guys all do such great work it is absolutely INSPIRING to
me!
EDIT:
I should also mention I have no clue how to shade really. I used to
draw when I was really little and I was half decent for my age but now
ive lost everything because I got so nose deep into music. Let me know
how I can improve on that and anti aliasing as well
(Moved since i realized this is a better place for this hah, sorry about that)
I would just love to know what I can do to fix and improve, etc

For starters, pick one light source and stick with it. The BG is backlit, the foreground is front lit, and the rock is lit from above. Next, use a real reference for a pose every time until you know how to draw your own. Otherwise, take a look at the color tutorial in this forum. At the very least, you can make a BG gradient with less contrast.
