I have no artist background, since i love pixel art, decided to teach my self. After reading some tutorials manage to make this! tried to work with Random dithering but later tweak it to this level.

It's a Pixel Boulder, just want to know does it look like one?

please give me feedback on shading, choosing proper color palette and what more i can improve.

You have the right idea.
You are over pixelling tho. For this size you don't have to do that. The colors are good but maybe not the most obvious colors for a boulder as these shades are too 'hot'.

Moving to WIP section, k.

It's nice! This one looks less coockie and more marble shaped.
:P
I would try to improve even further the volume and depth.

It's definitely better!
It has a shape now.
If you want to make a lava boulder, you need to make fire reflections and the rock more black, like in volcanoes.
You can see what I mean in my avatar here.
Well done, I'm happy you're improving. :D

You can find other artist palette too, use them if you want. ( but at least credit them.)

After few more tries I remake this lava boulder again keeping the palette as minimum as possible, as daruda suggested some tutorials, i have concluded that for starters i need to work with minimum color palette and if image size small avoid dithering (there is no point in dithering)

Also want to know which one you guys like. I know I have long way to go! but I am really enjoying this

Remake 1

Remake 2

Thank you all for the help! and daruda i picked the colors from your avatar i hope it's fine!

Remake 2 looks nicer to me.

When submitting to the gallery whenever possible make BGs transparent, k. Not a rule, it just looks nicer because of all the colored themes.

Looks good, you're on the right track.
I don't have problem about the palette. Just try to make it yours, my understanding of colors really improved after shifting to palette that I've made, what make every pixel artist unique is his way of understanding colors.
About the piece: They lack a proper light source, you can see it in the 1st, the motive why the second looks better is exactly because it lacks a light source, it seems like it's too dark for a light and it's all lightened from the lava, but you need to shape at least a little your form to make it a builder, now it seems like you're watching lava from a hole. I hope that I've explained myself.

The 2nd one reads more like hot lava with the warm yellow insides contrasting the cooler purple rocks. I prefer that one for hot lava. The 1st one is more like cooling lava.
