Hi
I was prompted to pixel quite a lot of various animated explosions for my last project. So I remebered, that though I think Im quite experienced in pixelart, I just suck at this specific thing. The problem is Im unable to find any tutorial for it and I wasnt able to learn much from other people sprites either. Can anybody please direct me to some good explosion-drawing&animating tutorial ? (if there is sucha a thing) Thank you |

There probably isn't such a tutorial because explosions are one the
hardest things to make convingly and how an explosion works depends on
what is exploding. I avoid them for this reason. However, movies are a
good reference for me when I need to make one. Find a movie with the
type of explosion you are looking for then view it frame by frame is
the best suggestion I can offer.

Thanks for you replyes.
Seems like theres really no easy(er) way for me. jalonso - did you try what you advice ? I did, but it didnt really led to any nice pixel-style results. If you have more experience with this can you maybe share more concrete ideas ? alkaline - I know the MetalSlug series and theyr classy explosions and graphic style overaly, and I even milked teh interweb for some of anim sprites from theyr games, but sadly "... I wasnt able to learn much from other people sprites ..." as I wrote before. Im trying for like a year now and cant get a grip at that, tahs why Im asking for help (again). Btw heres how it looks so far:

| I think the first part is great, but I think the second half is way too short, it just disappears suddenly. Drag it out, make smoke, do something, because it just abruptly ends. |

to me frames 6 & 7 look too much like a saturated flower. here are
a few gifs that may help ya:
