I've always been interested in manga and all that, and have piles of sketches, drawings and failed attempts and digitally colouring them about my bedroom. I stumbled upon an old box and found some drawings of a character i had created years ago. Most of them were pretty shabby, but some were quite cool. So yeah, i felt like a change, so i thought about pixelling her. Her name is 'Brass' for some reason, i think because she was the rival of some other character called Silver.. or something. Anyway, enough of my life story, here's the pixel art:

Just sorting out the shadows. I'm not sure how much of her i shall do, probably just this profile image for the moment though. I could do my first actual scene, with a background (probably in a smokey bar, she looks like she's leaning on the counter, huh?) She did have some random face paint on some pics so i thought i'd evolve it into my current insignia for signature's sake.

Yeah, it's nice... I'd like to see how it would look when colored. Also, the eyebrow goes over the hair... is that how it was supposed to be made?

Cheers, i edited the eyebrow slightly. And here it is with a rough pallette: (I got it wrong, theres 15 colours at the moment...)

I think i should sort out her neck... what do you think? Does it look ok? Aaaaah!

Both the tattoo and the eyelashes seem to make it look weird. The lip shade is too similar to the skin shade. Try looking in a mirror or something. I love the hair and general face shape though.

I think the "logo" tattoo looks vain and self indulgent. I would make
her ponytail (or something else) the shape of the logo so that its
there in a clever "er" way.

You mean i'm vain and self indulgent or the character is? Cus we both kindof are... Lol, that's an interesting idea jalonso, i hadn't thought of that. Although the character before had a circle on her cheek, you think that would look ok? Or i could just leave it bare i suppose, it's a tad boring though ^_^
------------------------------------------------------------
Update:

In the most detailed drawing she's wearing this jacket, i'd show you if i could (my scanner's broken) but yeah, i have to add a load of detail to it, and its gunna be hard (but FUN). I know her head is quite large, i'll just say it's a style (well, it is really).

Very nice, I like the ponytail "logo" this way better. As for the
lightsource I would experiment with several, in diff colors to add
drama/movement to her situtation. I have no doubt this will turn out
great since you always manage to in the end.
ps. By vanity I meant you not her. Sometimes you sign in a
distracting manner that takes away from the piece (the cave, for
example).

i dont think you should make her lips pink.. either define them more or get rid of the pink altogether - it looks kinda smeared right now, i think getting rid of the pink would make it cleaner/more manga-like..but thats just me..

And leel, you're probably right, now that i look back i think i preffered her without the pink. The reason i didnt make it more clear was because she sort of looked like a whore then. Eheh.
And cheers for the compliments, i'm sure if she was real she'd be flattered. But she isn't so... PWNED! er..

little.

-i think the left arm's shading makes it appear to much as separate balls, rather -then one arm. -as far as i know the glass shouldnt bend the light of the sleeve's end that much -this will pprobably be really hard to fix if you are going to, but she doesn't seem to hold the glass, she seems to hold something much lighter and brittler -the fingers are too long. about 20-25% i think

This is really lovely. My only critique would be the shading on the hair... the lightest part seems to get wider as you go from the side to the top of the head, and it seems to that it would do the opposite.

Her pose looks pretty awkward to me. For someone with such a despondent expression you'd think she'd choose a less strainful way to sit.
I think the problem begins with the far shoulder- or lack of far shoulder! By pushing the shoulder out you'd correct both this awkwardness and her oversized head. It'd also mean you wouldn't have to worry about all those annoying jaggies on her (HER) right arm.
You've got the skills to make this look really ace, and, in my opinion, your brilliant colouring has shone light on an otherwise dull piece of line art.

Osht. With a darkening of the pupils (thanks alk) and a lowering of the mouth i hath created... A much more pouty one and yet a character with much more personality. Huzzah. I also think it's more anatomically correct. I also had a go at bringing the shoulder in a little, which does look better (thanks iST) and fixed the thumb a little (thanks everyone) and cleaned up a few more n00by lines (still more to go). Ive also used an orange from the gold colour to highlight the hair a tad more. The current hair highlights were very drafty so i'll deff have to fix them (thanks Morgan). Still lots more to do though. Cheers to everyone for your comments!

Nice update, but keep on pushing that shoulder out, and make sure to bring the breast with it! Alternatively you could bring the closer shoulder down a bit, either way, I still think there are some perspective issuses. I'd recommend photographing someone in the position and compare it to your work. If I have time I'll have a go at taking a photo for you.

Cheers iSTVAN. A photo would be great, if you can, because i can't due to technical difficulties, and i couldnt find a good enough reference on googell.
I did bring out her 'chest' a little, although it was pretty much guesswork. I'll keep on fiddling with her shoulders and see what i can do. I agree i really should have worked on the lineart a bit more before i started colouring, seems i was a bit hasty (everyday i keep noticing how wrong the neck seems).
But yeah, i shall keep at it. Wh00t.

Good to see that you're still working on this, the only problem I see that hasn't been fixed or mentioned recently is the thumb. It seems like it could be going around the other side of the cup, being opposable, but it looks like a 6th finger between the index finger and thumb right now.

@Skull: I tried adding cheek deff earlier and it completely changed her 'look' to something i didn't like. Perhaps i could do it some other way which works, but for the moment i don't think i'll bother. ~Worked on the hair alot in this update (Although it's still in very much WIP stages). I think the loss of the two highlight tones makes the hair look much nicer, like chocolate =D ~Fixed some other things aswel. I think i'm working on taking out the darkest blackish colour altogether, but it'll be hard seeing as it is needed to define her necktop thingey etc. ~I'm also having some trouble with the shading of the shoulderpads etc. But mowel. A wonderful piece you got there. The biggest "flaw" I would say is the hand that is holding the glass. Try holding a glass yourself and you will see that you rather have firm grip around that glass, which means that thumb wouldn't be that visible. But if you want it that way, thats okey too. One other thing about the hand. The index finger shouldn't be longer than the middle finger as it looks on the picture. And as nearly everyone else already mentioned, the fingers seem to be a little too long.

imo the neck looks real weird and the darkest face shade seems like a better colour for it. and the hand looks pretty whack but when i tried to edit i couldn't get anything either. maybe do a redraw of the hand? depends how much tweaking you wanna do.

Haha thanks guys.
I suppose i probably will do a complete redraw of the hand, something more ladylike i guess. Apart from the middle finger and index finger comparisons, i can't see anything wrong with the length of the fingers... it will sort of matter, even if i am redrawing, that i know how large they should be. I'll snap 'em a few pixels short next time and see how it looks.
Thanks alot for the edit Akira, i can see now that a change of texture etc. might be in order. I'll have a few tries with some things and see what i get. And i agree with you that the neck looks odd, not only because of the colour of it too. Once i've finished the hair, or am in the process of, i'll probably see what i can do to improve her neckkk.
Thanks for the comments again.
