Hey! A little plug for something you all might be interested in:
My team and I just released a free game for iPhone called Sweet Hazard, featuring pixel art by our artist and designer Daigo.
https://itunes.apple.com/app/sweet-hazard/id896494215 - Apple Store Link
(There'll be an Android version before too long, too...)
It's a 2D top-down shooter with upgradeable weapons, an endless battle against an ever-changing zombie horde. I could run you through more bullet points, but I think the art should be the focus here:
As I sort of implied earlier, I'm not the artist on our team. If anyone has questions about the art, though, I can pass it along to Daigo! He's been a pixel artist for years, and I've always admired his work.

I like the graphics and how bright you are as a player compared to the environment.

I agree with Mosst! However, because the characters' "shadows" are lighter than the background, it looks weird, like the characters and backgrounds are designed for different games.
Are the maps pre-made, or randomly generated?

Thanks!
There's actually just the one map - it's a simple shape, but it good for the game's purposes - it creates opportunities for chokepoints, fighting out in the open, and also for cornering yourself if you get careless...
