Ooh, Jalonso thanks for your kind response. I really appreciate any tips such as the ones you mentioned, as I'm just now learning the ropes and know I have a long way to go before becoming great at pixel art (or any craft for that matter).
I was basing the pixel image off a reference photo and I realized at a certain point I'll have to let go of that reference and do what's more logical for the art, including the shadows and color choices. My other friend suggested using the same color but a different saturation to convey highlights better.
Good call at many of the colors not being seen at the 1x size.. that's why I posted the giant version too because it's so small at 32x32.
I'm going to get back to the lab and hope to make something better asap.
PS: Your work is sooooo good! http://bugpixel.com/wordpress/gallery2 blew my mind, as did many of your cityscapes, and alien ship crashed into the house etc. Thanks for the response and see ya soon !

I don't quite understand you posted image but in the original pixel submitted the reason I thought it best to send back for revision was because it seemed to me that your color choices and placement were off in a way that messed up the pixel. For example you placed the highlight color in the area that should have been the shadow colors seen best around the nose. You used a lot colors that are not seen at 1X not that this mattered in making a judgment just something to be aware off since I'm responding. Notice in the 1X the heart in the hair seems like 2 colors where one is hardly noticed but in the zoomed you actually use 5.
