Not a serious thing / for a challenge, but I was messing around with the DB16 palette in grafx2 (which makes you cool, im pretty sure) and doodled some stuff.

Not a scene so much as an example of the things put together:

Criticism / pointers would be very appreciated; I would like to be able to get some form of these sprites onto the site eventually. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Limes, and yeah I think of Sonic's arms as being pretty much jointless...and rabbit's arms as having joints wherever, apparently. Lol

Small update, with (suggestive?) mushrooms

and, WIP for the weekly challenge:

It's meant to be a brain with arms/legs, in a room, in one of those chair/desk things. I'm going to add robot parts on the outside, so like, the robot is powered by the brain's +/- energy? Or something.

EDIT: It's too wide at the moment, but I can make the right arm shorter easily, and I was more worried about height anyway, which has turned out fine (<128px). CC/help with problem areas/pointers/everything all would be very appreciated.

EDIT: Width of the thing itself is exactly 126px.

Currently at 15 colors, probably going to zap the red/green to go down to 11 (including transparency.)

EDIT:

11 + transparency. Could reduce more, but not sure it's worth it; I think I'll just keep the background.

(Palette is DB16, same as the Sonic stuff.)

Nice work. For the brain, I think it's not very clear what the drawing is about. I can't tell it's a brain without your explanation. Also, it seems like your style is a little bit messy. Try cleaning up your lines and creating clearer clusters of pixels, so that things are smoother and easier to read.

Also, where is the light coming from to create diagonal streaks on the metal surfaces? It's not very strong and I think you could apply your skills better on the claws and arms.

The whole piece looks extremely lively though, which is a big plus. It's fun to look at, but now it needs some polishing.

Happy pixeling!

Thanks Superturnip. It definitely is messy, I'm trying to go over the brain/desk/chair area and clean it up a bit, less dither vomit and more clusters/definition.

The arms and especially the claws were definitely rushed, I tried to clean up the shading but I think I might need to scrap the claw hands, maybe replace them with pincer fingers that wouldn't be so reflective? The light source is meant to be vaguely upper-leftish, but it is very inconsistent at the moment.

Small update based on your feedback and some from someone on reddit, some changes to the brain/desk/chair area (shading, outlines, clusters, still working on that whole area) some changes to the arms/claws (but still not at all happy with the claws), and I changed the brown to a more pinkish color to make it more brainish? Also, experimented with making the interior of the room more yellow-lit, and changed how the bulb/lamp looks:

Thanks again for the help, it's very much appreciated. :)

Edit: Also, guy on reddit suggested a head to make it more "bot"-like and less of a room with limbs. Doodled one quickly, plus wires:

edit: just slightly more fiddling

(I hope it's okay that I'm doubleposting, I'm the most recently replied to topic at the moment so it's not really bumping me up any higher. Anyway,)

Tried to add some AA, maybe make the arms/legs/head a bit smoother / less rough.

edit:

Unfortunately, I will be travelling sunday, so this is my last day to work on this. aghaghasdfbgn

More DB16 silliness. The righthand guy is just a doodle, the brown creature and lower man are more serious tries.

Hi, Nice work, I like your drawing style!

As for pixel stuff, I think this medium works way better when you clean it up. I tried to fix the face a bit, but I found many pixels of which I couldn't tell what they were supposed to represent.. Also, I prefer single px outlines.
Here is a quick edit on the guy trying to 'clean' it up. Left is mine, right is original.

Oh, and YES, doodling in Grafx2 with DB16 makes you cool!

Haha, thanks Hapiel! I like the edit a lot, adding purple to the skin tones really works well, the shirt arms and jeans look more formed, really nice. And the less thick border seems to work well.

Just another quick thing, more normal-looking attempt at a guy. I'm going to give the jeans another shot, I hate their shading, but for now

Some changes to the tree, based on reddit's feedback. Changed the shading and outlining up a bit, and tried to remove some jaggies.

The moon is a separate thing, WIP for both, CC welcome.

The pixeling on the tree and grass needs some tender loving care. You've certainly got the ability to draw well, but you should go back and clean up your work so it's well-done on a pixel level. Take some time to fix the jagged yellow/white areas, which don't add to the look or help break the leaves into more interesting forms.

As for the moon, it looks great for now, just watch out for jaggies. :)

Thanks Superturnip, I gave the yellow/white shading on the leaves another go, and I changed the grass a little bit, though it still needs cleaning up.

Also, the moon is going with the tree now lol

I like your style man. Very weird.
Maybe we could collaborate on something...
I'm currently making a game called 'Cocoon' and it could use your obscure art style...

Email me at admin@eclipsejapan.jp if you're interested and we can talk about it.

Hey, I'm really flattered, like a lot, but I'm in school and probably don't have the time to commit to working on a game. Still, thank you!
