Well antialias the thing and fix jaggies and don't make all the outlines that dark. A background would also be nice.
On the top, I'd put another even lighter highlight into the already existing one and maybe attempt to put a real texture to the lower side of the hat instead of just using regular dithering there.(somthing like http://www.bulgaria.com/photos/graphics/mushroom.jpg - this but I guess that depends on the type of mushroom, some shrooms have different, smooth textures)

All i'd like to say is that the dithering doesnt look too good. How about a texture like the underneath of a mushroom?

stanloshka please don't post a WIP, get advice, then not take any of it and post on the gallery the next day and write in the description "I see some mistakes and imperfections. So please be kind" anymore.
And if you must then come back and CLOSE the WIP not forgetting to thank those that offered advice for their time even if you did ignore all of it.

Yeah dw, that post was made while i was eating a magnum. Sugar high to brain = HEHEHEBLAHBALLS!

So yeah, i would delete it but hey.

On a more serious note; stanloshka, please take the critisism into account. I believe it would greatly improve your piece.

The green background is a little strong for me. I would work on cleaning up the lines too.

I make some upgrades :)
maybe I shoud add some shadows under needles.
What do you think about texture on the lower side of cap?
Do you realy think to antialias the outlines?
I wanted to make this mushroom non-antialias, but if you think will be better I will fix it.
thx for comments :)
And excuse me for posting it to gallery, I think I cant remove it now :( Later I will be careful :)

I just commented on the unfinished piece you submitted to the gallery.

Now for your update:
You can update the piece in the gallery as well or even delete it and resubmit, but you should finish the thing before resubmitting.

I really do think (well I don't just "think", I KNOW) that it would look better if it was aa'ed. If you don't want to aa the outer outlines, because it is meant for a transparent background then that's ok, but if you're not working with a color limit (which you obviously aren't) then you should aa at least to the inner outlines, but not restrict aa to outlines also the shading will benefit from aa.

And a few words about your textures:
Did you just apply some uniform noise filter to the whole piece?
(the unusual unclean-ness and the high color count imply that)
It doesn't look very appealing that way and also it would not be pixel art then. Clean it up and try again.

I count 256 colors. Either you have way too much time on your hands or your'e using tools. tools != pixelart.

crits on the piece: less random pixels. they do nothing for the piece.

I wanna tell this, not much works I have seen there, are real pixelart. Pixel art is work pixel by pixel and I see there too much works which are not made by pixel. Dont be angry I want to create PA with tools which help me. Why dont use tool if it will looks SAME as done by pixelbypixel?

Using tools totally ruins the point of pixel art. Part of the challen-
You know what, these kinds of discussions have been going on here for way too long. I'll leave this to someone else.

YOU could easily make this by hand without tools. dude just practise
and block in your main colours and then work around it adding
texture and smoothing out the sahding. obviously you must only you
the pencil tool and paint bucket.

you may find intense critique jarring and tedious at first, but you will soon learn that staying in your own little bubble of thinking will be less as effective as taking advice from someone that looked at it differently than you did. so...yeah. we were/are all beginners at one point :D

because it won't look the same as if it were done pixel by pixel. no matter how new you are you have to realise that using tools instantly makes something not pixel art.

you think that AAing a wee little mushroom takes too much time?
I say "ha"
that's right, HA

AAed by hand

By hand

By hand

get the idea? your mushroom is NOT A LOT OF WORK TO AA
it might be hard for you NOW because you're LEARNING. But everything is hard at first, you have to work through it. I can now AA really fast because I practised and I learned. Complaining that you're being critiqued too hard results in nothing useful. Pats on the head and "wow that's amazing, omg!!!" will get you NOWHERE because they don't push you to learn and grow!

What separates pixel art from other digital artforms is the use of very basic tools. It's like sculpting by hand vs. using powered machinery. Nobody really minds that a lot of sculptors today use powered machinery, and in the end it may look the same, but pixel art has a long standing tradition of being simple and we celebrate that fact. There are loads of places you can go to celebrate other forms of digital art that embrace the more complicated tools, this isn't one of them.

If you didn't talk about how hard it was or make excuses to ignore what we're saying and just try instead, this piece could've been finished a long time ago.
