Okay im still new to pixel art but im getting used to, you can check progress of my first few characters http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=21531&PID=198645#198645 - HERE .

I will post all my WIP and done pictures of characters that i design before posting in gallery, so if you like my style you can follow my progress here .

This is Flora, and few recoloured versions, hope you like it. There are in total 27 colours, and 6 colours per her skin and + background and Humane Flora has 2 additional colours.

I'll try to do at least two to three characters a week but i might not be always able to do so.

Thanks for viewing this topic, have a good time.

EDIT: I forgot to make Icy Flora and Desert Flora i may post them later.

You are coming along nicely.
Nothing wrong but strive to work a bit harder on color choices and the contrast of the colors you do choose. I see a lot of waste.
Its worthwhile noting that often in pixelart you can color an area using colors other than the obvious. i.e., you can color a 'blue' area using colors not in the blue spectrum. The closest you got to this is with Flora on the green ramp. Crimson and Fiery are the biggest miss on both the red and black ramps.

I tried making rock colour palette for crimson flora... I really Ned to change editor, seeing them in post and in gimp is totally different, now that I have some free time I'll try using grafx2 or gale. Also I'm trying to use hue shifting but its a bit difficult because I am not used to making something with colours that don't seem to be right for that place. Thanks for replying and information.

If you are just experimenting with hue shifting try just very small shifts would be my suggestion.

Your background color isn't working with all your color combinations. So the question is will your background color be set in whatever place you intend to use these? Or can you edit that background color individually per image to clearly outline the object?

Often with fire/magma go hand in hand with Igneous rocks (http://geology.com/rocks/igneous-rocks.shtml). Emulating Basalt, volcanic glass, could give you a nice high to low tone in your image so the whole shape shows up more clearly.

The big problem I have is with your text. I'm reading it as saying Flurk, Hery Flurk, Desum Flurk, Ily Flurk, etc. I can't even see the word Humane on that background. :)

I'd certainly work on making the backgrounds vs character/text clearer, especially when you're doing text/characters that small.

Well these are just random characters that may or may not be used in future when I learn programming language, or when I become good enough to sell my work, so I just try to find background that doesn't blend with character. I might add same or different outline to every character so they can use same background colour.

I haven't really used any reference for idea or colour, idk why but it seems more fun to experiment on my own so I don't get in trouble for incidentally making very similar characters.

I will fix background and try to use hue shifting somewhat better.

Thanks for reply and information :)

I finished her with 10 colours and i like it:

I didn't change anything about wings, hope it's fine how it is. Also i am going to upload more variations of her soon.

That's a hard read.
Maybe because the leg/dress makes it look like a sword and the arms are not defined enough.

If I hadn't seen before the wings I would have never tell that the lower part of the wings is actually the wings, but the legs.
I think you need more contrast and maybe a few extra colors.
It's true that the cloth on the hips looks like a sword.
Also, I don't like very much the wings other than in white.
Nice concept but still confusing to read.

That is a sword, she is holding a sword that's why legs are almost invisible
as to them being behind the sword... I don't get it how you would get impression that lower part of the wings are legs but I'll try fixing that to... also if I wanted to cloth instead of sword I would make it smaller cause that kind of cloth accesory you are talking about is something knighgts wear and they can't fight if it were this big... And about wings I tried using hue shifting and I may not have been successful, and they are golden colour to indicate that angel is holy not fallen. And centre of this picture are wings, hair and then body... ofc I agree that arms need fixing but I triedusing as smallest palette as ppossible iat my level.

Variations will be posted soon.

Sorry for messy text.

I may have several suggestions, but don't misunderstand, I really like the style you're making and I think you could make a fun game using it in future.
