RULE #1: Label non pixel art topics with NPA
We've eliminated the "Other Art" section so if you want to post your non pixel art you can do it here, BUT please make sure if you are posting non pixel art in this section that you label it NPA which stands for Non Pixel Art.
Example topics...
- Horse scene <--- Pixel art
- NPA: Painting of my cat <--- Non pixel art
- NPA: Sketch of yer mama <--- Non pixel art
- New dog piece <--- Pixel art
Make sense? If it does not make sense consult a physician immediately. Why did we eliminate "Other Art"? Because it was getting very little use and it's nice having fewer sections.
RULE #2: If it's a WIP that means it's a Work In Progress
I'm too lazy to write more rules right now... everyone has been pretty cool on the forum so far so there's no real need to be hardcore with the rules.

Sinner.
I can tell by how few views this topic gets that nobody reads the rules.

This is my very first post in this forum, so you see: I read the rules before posting.
(will take some time now, before i'll make another post, 'cause i don't have any pixel art to show yet...)

RULE #2: If it's a WIP that means it's a Work In Progress
that's right kids. Please don't post pixels that you never plan to update. It's frustrating to consistently give out comments and suggestions to people that will never use any of them. So often we see people submitting their WIPs to the main site without any updated versions. What's the point of a WIP section if you don't want to learn and grow from other people's wisdom?
oh, and Rule #3 - we do not talk about fight club

What about if people are done with a sprite to the extent they're
willing to work on it, but would still appreciate critique, so as to
treat it as a "learning experience" that they could maybe use for the
next sprite they do? I don't necessarily think stuff posted needs to be
continually updated.
There doesn't really seem to be a show-off place for things like that, if this forum section is specifically for WIP's.

If you are finished with a piece and would like comment/critique you can http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixels/submit.asp - post it to the gallery .
- Finished work = Gallery
- Work In Progress = WIP section of forum

Kritter, thats the great thing about this site, the gallery is where you can post your finished pieces and people can still tell you what they think about it.

Hye this is the first time in a forum. And the first I have a problem with one of my pictures. What can I do when i find a text like this. All my pictures are handmade that's all what I can say. Who can help me?
This is not to say you cannot resubmit the piece in the future after revising it. We encourage you to participate in our http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/ - forums which include a Work in Progress (WIP) category. This is a great opportunity to gain knowledge and feedback for your pixel pieces before submitting them for approval on the main site.
If you feel this is a mistake please post a FRIENDLY message in the Resources/Support section of the forum and we'd be happy to discuss it with you. Responses to this issue within the gallery site will be ignored.ye that's my first post in a forum. What can I do if I have get a message at my picture like this

um you should create a new topic in the WIP section, where we can
give our views on it. If you think its should be approved tehn post
your agument in the resources section.
I have no idea what possesed you to post it in the rules thread, i
think someones got a bad case of n00b-itis, *w00t new illness*

Thiara13: This is most likely referring to http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/7835.htm - Krumm , which has been marked as a rip from a video game. At the moment, all of your gallery is now being in question and is marked for possible deletion unless you can provide proof of your having made these from scratch. The beauty of the WIP forum is you can show your progress from start to finish and NOBODY will question its origin. I would not have posted this statement in the open like this to save you from ridcule but you only posted part of the revision message from what I can tell.

Just wondering- is there a rule about 'progression through other's edits?' IE, when someone posts, how much of your reply has to be words and how much should be an edit? And possibly more crucially, how much of other's edits is considered yours?
I know that this is a bit of a necropost, but the rules should always be updating and changing with time.

So, if double posting is not allowed, how do people realize when there was an update to a thread, in which no one has commented after the last comment of the artist?
Scenario (if you're short of time, skip this and just read the questions at the end):
- Artist A makes a new wip thread.
- Artist A continues to work on his piece.
- Day(s) pass by.
- Artist A updates the wip thread but has to do this by editing his last(or the opening) post, because nobody has commented in between, because perhaps everybody thought there was nothing to comment yet.
- In the meantime however the thread already went to page N(wherever) and maybe some people would now think that there is something to comment, but they forgot about the thread and so they never get to see the update...
...yadda, yadda, yadda, to make this short:
- After how many days of getting no comments is it allowed to bump the thread(by double posting) to notify readers that there was an update?
- Or is double posting strictly disallowed in every case?

double posting is taken on a case by case scenario. Obviously if someone has an updated image they want to show and no one has bothered to comment regarding the previous image, it should seem acceptable. Granted, just because you've moved a few pixels to the left or something minor as such, it would be a waste of time on the posters part to even bother to update.

I understand that minor updates issue, thanks for clarifying.
So I guess, it'll be safe to only ever bump anything after a minimum of three days/evenings (only counting "active" days though, not counting idle days on which no work at all went into a piece).

This rules section Sucks XD
I can't find what I'm looking for!
Okay, so somebody uses an art piece for there line art, but that person hasn't asked permission from the artist. Like here for example:
http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=7474 - link to thread/topic
This to me is misleading. And not right and seen to me and maybe others as art/work ripping.
And no! I do not think that it appropriate to call this type of thing referencing art.
As I do not know the RULES XD, I did not inform a moderator. Also I'm older than Jal!I think ? I thought he was like a 30year old guy or something like that. :).
Actually I still do not know.
I will find out though.

jal is older than time itself. XD
As for lineart, no permission is needed to use lineart. Especially if it comes from forum_posts.asp?TID=1101&PN=1 - here . (Unless I somehow misunderstood the question.)
edit:
Ok, so I just re-read that tank topic that you linked to. The lineart for the tank was just a ref pic. Not really a huge deal.
forum_posts.asp?TID=6269 - Look here for explanation . (jal, a lot of the pics are missing, need to replace them.) :O

That cleans allot up, But I have that pic on my pc. It has 32 colours and as far as I know is seen as line art.
as far as refs go. they should be references not an exact copys.
He hasn't scaled it down, and has done an easy colour reduction. As far as I know this is a rip. He hasn't credited the artist and as far as I know hasn't asked for permission. I'm not arced about this really XD
Jal is king and unfortunately not all of us have the same morals. So I will say I don't like it. End of story.
(oh Mr Green I am sorry about my annoyance I'm full of sh*t :P )

Then it might have been too simple.
If you want, create a topic in "resources and support", and the mod who actually sent it back might give you the full reason.

please help
im trying to use retro x and bmp2 scr
i have been using windows media player calssic
when you select the full screen reoslution as 320 x200 i figured that even though it still uses 16bpp colour depth it might be easier to capture using debut screen cast from this lower resolution and then use virtual dub
i am capturing video at 256x192 and 512x384 and 512x192
i would like to create an atom lite hdf file that has each record stuffed full of masterbasic compressed screens- although not if it slows things down too much
sim coupe offer s a +numeric keypad skip five frames ability - unlike zx spin which offers pseudo accelerated processor function 7mhz 14mhz 28 mhz - but no msx turbo r800 7.1mhz with r800 core ram timings just to see what it would look like even if the code needed rewriting for th emultiply8/16bit mnemonics or the vdp9990 video processor
please help
i cant get bmp2scr or retro x to create a sam file at all
infact the tap file that is produced doesnt do anything
