Hey.

I'm trying out some background tiles here, but they just don't look right. I dunno if I should go with less detail or more.

I'm not very experienced with background tiles (this is the second set I've done), so could you guys give me any tips? Maybe tell me how you'd go about designed them?

Well, I have to say that that looks very awesome. I'm not the best help here, but I know I like what you did.

The depth seems a bit off. Perhaps decrease saturation of the green so it looks farther back. Also try darkening the grey pipes a little. Good overall though! Keep up the good work!

Structurewise it looks all nice and detailed enough to me.
But as Monkey 'o Doom said, the background should be darker to create a better distinction between the blocking plane and the non-blocking plane.
(Darker backgrounds are good for indoor levels. If this was an outdoor level then the higher brightness and less saturation of the background plane would be correct.)
Also add more contrast at the top of the floor tiles to make them stand out more and by that making it more obvious(visible) that they can be walked on. Not sure if that last thing is necessary though after the background has been darkened already.

Aha! I was trying to make backgrounds lighter for some odd reason. Thanks for the help, chaps.
