But then again, if this would go into education level. Like, school lends every pupil that laptop, you would save tons of paper, that means forests will be saved. -------------

''built in wireless'' goddamnit.. do they have that much reach in africa? i mean.. to get every mile covered you'd need like a bajillion antennas. plus. they'd download soldat, or some other game, and get addicted
is there some place to get its specs? (barrey last after a minute uf winding, hd space, videocard, etc) ?? edit: i meant ''battery last, after a minute of winding up the thing'' yay for sleepy typos ------------- ▄▄█ ▄▄█ ▄█▄ ▄█▄ |

I swear wind up things are reeeaaly expensive. I mean, obviously not as expensive as making a nuclear power plant but... normal torches are like, £10, and wind up ones are almost £70. The proposed $100 machine will be a Linux-based, with a dual-mode display—both a full-color, transmissive DVD mode, and a second display option that is black and white reflective and sunlight-readable at 3× the resolution. The laptop will have a 500MHz processor and 128MB of DRAM, with 500MB of Flash memory; it will not have a hard disk, but it will have four USB ports. The laptops will have wireless broadband that, among other things, allows them to work as a mesh network; each laptop will be able to talk to its nearest neighbors, creating an ad hoc, local area network. The laptops will use innovative power (including wind-up) and will be able to do most everything except store huge amounts of data ------------- got game?

It's made solely for minimal educational use in developing countries.
It's impressive really. I love the incorporation of a hand
crank/battery pack thing in the original prototype models and I'm not
sure if they kept that feature (I'm sure they have them seperate, but
in the original concepts they were the same unit that slid into the
joint connecting the screen and keyboard), but I thought it was clever.
