Thought I'd go full blown Mrmo Tarius and have fun with the tile editor

by the way does anyone know how to place stuff without it being aligned to the grid in Tiled?

You can turn grid on or off if it's Grafx2 you're using, the g key is the shortcut for it :)

I'm in Tiled, but I'll try the g key anyway. it might work you never know

the closest I've gotten was to, say if I used 16x16 tiles, switched grid to 8x8, then select 4 tiles at a time (2x2 square) in the tile window for the big ones and 1 tile at a time for the off-center ones.

Another way is to have 2 separate .tmx files, one with a transparent layer of another grid size that you overlay on top of the other one in another program.

My eyes burn. Ouchies. Can anyone make a dither table of those to see if the in-between-shades created are a bit more reasonable?

The challenge will certainly be dictated by who can maximise their dithering skil with such a low palette. Working with such few colors in the past will pay off now.

Don't believe in dithering, buddy! Clusters, it's clusters!

pfff, dithering is for babies. me and mandrill are way too cool for that baloney

update on G key in Tiled -  it doesn't work.

gonna have to do that stuff outside of Tiled.

Yep.

Personally, my favourite is orange, closely followed by lemon. I don't mind strawberry, but the cherry ones taste like medicine to me =|

Didn't have much time to work on this today but I wanted to do a bit more.

-changed floor
-added leaves
-clouds
-sun position

On the shop: I like it, but the lettering is pretty sloppy. Even up the flat parts so they follow the line of the back of the store. They're all guilty except for the C.

Well... I started working on something too :D I have just rough idea and i dont know if i finish this one in time .(Ludum dare :)

Super messy WIP, sorry. :P
I'm thinking about changing the yellow for pink, since the red and yellow share the same value.
I'll clean and update it once I get home, only touched it during work breaks.
There'll be some birds on the BG in some branches, but they aren't that clear yet. Not sure if i'll manage to do it.

We need to take care of these 2 account by picking just one. If you wish to keep this new one then we should remove an Alex or two, right?

Oh, that's me too!
I don't seem to remember the login or email I used otherwise, I would 'migrate' to that one, as it's 3ish years older
*Edit*
Just reset my password, no clue what it was previously, but I cannot delete it.
And one cannot change a username, I had no clue it would overflow
I picked this username because of another forum (TAU - Drazile knows)

Well sh*t. That's damn fine, Jackstar. I think adding some detail to the sun would help, though.

Here's what I got so far, will edit in updates.

I've always wanted to try this kind of limited palette. But I still didn't decide which which one I should finish left one or right one. Btw this is my first weakly challenge. :)

Really love the idea for the challenge, but I don't think it'll work for the scene I pictured in my mind : (

@Alex
Very nice use of the palette! Not sure where you plan on taking the background though. Imho, I would suggest just using a yellow as your bg instead of the pink.

Planning on some mountains; another layer or two with more pink grid overlay (similar to how far away stuff is bluer, but you know, not blue)
Also waving banners on poles in the closer background, and maybe some clouds

The yellow is the brightest color, and I wanted the highlights to be a little brighter than the background. At one point, I filled the background layer with red, it honestly wasn't bad

@Bcadren
On a semi-related note;
I have HTTP switchboard and the default replacement for blocked stuff (like annoying Facebook buttons) is a diagonal red and white stripes tile. Every now and then I go to a page with a massive social section on one side (or both) and it is literal eye burn.
It seriously hurts. The small ones are fine so I never remember to change it to something else.

v8

Finished mountains, added more layers, demonstrating the depth coloring
v9

Added middle field and antialiased mountains better
v10

Unmoving flags added
Still not final
Working on animation!

Flag anim
I was starting to get pissed at myself so I worked on the animation separately, instead of copying each frame to each flag
*EDIT* Aaah Imgur's .gifv's only seem to work on their site
Aaand just found out that every color I have been using is a little too dark, no wonder it looks different

the 2 colour red and orange version at the bottom is really great, stronger than the more 'finished' ones imo.

How true! Maybe just add the other 2 colors in the most minimal of ways. Perhaps even just the headlights of the train so its a power outage type of scene?

Not going to enter the challenge, and this image is not quite finished...but it was a good opportunity to try out the 4-dither (2x2) technique I've been working on recently.

I'll probably write a snippet about it at some point...

I see, dithering with 4 colors in a 2x2 space,
p y
y o
Gives a nice middle color
Also, on the neck, there is a rough spot, goes from red/yellow to orange/pink
Very nice work, very smooth
