Hey everyone, First of all I would like to apologize that this is my first post, as I do not want to seem like the type of person that joins simply for the sole purpose of self gain. I will definately be checking this forum from time to time and posting relevent information if I have any to give.
Okay, to the main point of this post. I am in the process of developing an online web-based RPG called Shaded Plains. I have several years experience in PHP and MySQL development and have previously created and maintained 2 text-based online RPGs (Which are no longer available, one went by the name of Tuimaux).
This one is a little different, in that you control a character on a world map (Rather than just being text with images for inventory items etc). You use the mouse to navigate the online world, and other players, npcs and items will be visible.
Currently the world map and navigation has been implemented. (Ie. You can walk around as your character and view npcs, items etc) But I still need to make some minor adjustments. (Such as automatically logging out inactive players)
The game is currently hosted on my own home apache server, so for security reasons I cannot give out the address since there are a lot of other important files hosted there. (And the map editor for the game, and I don't particularly want people messing with the games world map, lol)
So what am I actually needing for this project? Well, first of all, I have to mention that as of this time I cannot afford to pay people for their services since I am doing this in my spare time and it is merely a project for enjoyment.
What am I offering then you might ask? Well this will be a long term project, and therefor I am looking for not just a freelancer, but someone who wants to actively become a member of the team(Currently consisting of just myself, but we will be getting mappers and player mods etc). The creator of the artwork will be given full credit and will become part of a fast paced and friendly team. Unlike some of the other people who I have seen post on various forums, this will not be MY game, but OUR game.
I am hoping that eventually when it all comes together a bit more that I will be able to give the game a premium member service(paid) and therefor the proceeds will be split amongst the team (After hosting fees have been removed).
So, as for the pixel art itself. We will need 32x32 pixel images of items such as weapons, armours, potions, food etc. And slightly smaller (About 30x30 pixel) images for NPCs and players. This is due to the fact that each tile needed will be 32x32 pixels, therefor meaning that the grid will have 32x32 pixel cells. For some reason, when 32x32 pixel images are put into these cells, they stretch by about 2 pixels, thus making the background tile repeat, which looks messy.
If you are interested in this project, or would like more information, please email me or post a reply to this thread.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Tom Glenn hazviz@gmail.com

Sorry for the double post, but I have taken a screenshot of the latest stage of development for anyone who would like a preview of what the game will look like once completed. Shred has joined the team as the pixel artist, but that does not mean we could use more help! :D (Note that the character/npc images below were borrowed from the game Final Fantasy and are fully owned by SquareEnix. These will be changed asap when Shred provides me with our own character image, along with a new tileset since the current one is one i made a year ago. :P) http://i2.tinypic.com/11b0xhd.png - Click here to see the screenshot
There are things missing, alot of things, from the actual layout such as npc dialogue boxes, full chat layout, and I need to fix the way items are lay out in the inventory. (Also the links bar on the left will be populated without other things such as forums, and other game related links)
The mouse over tooltips currently show minimal information on npcs and characters. They will eventually show character level, perhaps a description for npcs. Also, the tile you have your mouse over, as can be seen from the screenshot but not too clearly, becomes brighter so you can accurately see which tile you are moving too.
Navigation works by simply clicking on the tile you wish to move to. However I am thinking of changing this to only being able to move to one of the 8 tiles that surround you in order to avoid people being able to travel across the world in a matter of minutes, and also because hopping from one side of the map to the other would cause people to be able to avoid enemy hotspots such as small areas of forest etc.
Once again, if you are interested in joining this project, please inform me.
Thanks.

Hey, I am currently running this on my own private apache server. So if you would like to take a look, please email me at mailto:hazviz@gmail.com - hazviz@gmail.com
The reason I will not give the address out is for security reasons. (Which is why I posted a screenshot instead)
Thanks
