Hi!

Just for fun and curiosity, I made a graph showing PJ member age distribution. Average birth year is around 1986 (29 years old). Median is 1989 (26 years old).

It seems we have several 1-year olds on the site.

I was born in '89 myself, how common :(

Thanks for sharing this.

(Little gravedigging)

It's interesting to see that the childhood of average members of the community matches with the 16-bit era. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Hm.. interesting.
I got interested in pixel-art around age 16 I think?.. I think I had done some prior to that but didn't think of it as pixel-art in the way I do now. Now I'm 29.. So that is about 13 or 14 years I've had an interest in it so far.
It would be cool to keep this graph updated to see the rate new members join, etc. I'm not surprised that it has a low rate below age 16- I would think most kids at that age and below are interested in other things, preoccupied with school, etc and may not really see pixel-art as something that they could do.

Ha! I sit well on the right of that bell curve. By the time I started playing games we were well into the GCN generation, but my silly parents ended up giving me a SNES instead. Had I been given the system of that generation I likely would not have gained my love for pixel art. :D

1989 is a way-cool year to be born. The year of Ducktales and MOTHER! Woot!

the sudden increase in '79 and '84 are pretty interesting
also the decrease between '94 and '95
and jeah, of course the enourmous '89 spike and also that '88 and '90 are both lower than their other neighbor.

Thanks for sharing!

I think there's an issue with the data gathering, or pixel artists
don't like to enter their exact year. All the spikes are at 5 year
intervals:

There's still some noise fluctuation of course, but the 5-year thing seems to account for the largest deviations.

I am 28 right now, so when this was posted I was the average of the mean and median ages. How mediocre!
