Hi everyone.

First of all, as it's my first post here, I'll try a little introduction. I'm not a designer or graphist or anything like that, so please don't be indulgent. I'm just someone who appreciates the pixel art style (especially isometric stuff). I played a lot of games that are nowadays considered as oldies and I kinda think pixel art is part of computer culture and can't be ignored.

So I tried myself on my own pixeled portrait. This is just a very simple animation with a 'xray scanner' effect. I used 2 layers (one with my portrait, the other with a hand-made skull) and played with transparency.

So here is the result :  maloART avatar.

Please feel free to comment and critic this.

Maybe the X-ray should be bigger? Because its hard for me to see the skull when its so small and goes so fast. Other then that, it looks great.

Welcome to the forums, I'm the resident outlaw/republican. Looks great! I just think that the jaw shouldn't go up to the ears on the skull.

I agree with Outlaw and Swiifty.. the x-ray should be a thicker line.. but I do think it's brilliant work. the colours and details are well thought out, the style is nice and the text is a nice little addition.

Thank you for the critics  ... I think you're right for thicker xray line and for the funny looking skull ...

I'll post the modified one soon.

My little modification done this morning : Loading ...

I thought that an oblic xray band would fit better in this composition. Is it right ?

I also changed the color effect applied in the Contour and Title layer.

Concerning the jaw, well, it seems, but I'm not a specialist in this domain, that it is attached very close to the ears emplacement. : http://face-and-emotion.com/dataface/physiognomy/media/cranium_front.jpg - Skull

(First off, sorry if i've missed anything because i've read basically nothing in this thread...)

I honestly prefer the first one, because with a thinner line i found it more interesting, and being slower also. I really liked the highlighting text aswel. This one seems too awkwardly fast and large to me (although the speed could just be because of AOL).

Really like the first one though.

i loved the fact that the linear xray gave a 3d effect of motion.. this one kinda does not feel as cool as the first one.

Im with larwick about the text here.. the highlighting one was cool..

I like the line going across rather than diagonal but I like the speed  and thickness of the second one. So I'd suggest giving a slightly bigger line like the first one and making it go quicker?

Here is the last attempt according to your suggestions. It's now a 25 frames animation using 127 different colors.

Anyway, I've done another one that is less static. I'll use it for my avatar and start something else...

Thank you for your comments and critics.

Yeah, I definately like the horizontally moving thicker line.

What I think would be cool is if you had it move quick in a flash every once and awhile like your second lighting-ish thing.

Overall nice work! I like the lineart and the colors you've chosen.
