Hello n00bz.
If you are new, read this WHOLE thing!
Welcome to the PixelJoint forums. Here at the forums you will find hundreds of pixel artists that are willing to help you improve your art and cause general chaos with.
However, there are several things you need to know if you plan on returning here and not be yelled out, told to shut up, or humiliate yourself to the point that you never want to return again.
Most of these are common sense, but regretably, not everyone is born with it. Some people have book smarts (prepare for a boring life) or overthink everything (no one cares about the chemical reactions that take place to make ice make water cold)
First off, look to the top right hand corner of the forum... Are you looking?
That is your menu bar. It is called that because it is a menu, and a bar. There are several helpful features in it that will make your stay here more enjoyable.
SEARCH FIRST!
The first one we will look at is "Search" (Fig. 1a)
Fig. 1a It is recommended bu 9.9 out of 10 pixel artists and veteran members that you use this feature BEFORE starting a new topic. The last thing we need to see is 30 topics with people asking how they can do pixel art. Trust me, click on it, it doesn't hurt...
Edit it, damnit!
Double posting is only tolerated in a very very few select topics. If you are not sure if it is in the topic you are about to post to, then it probably isn't.
But don't worry, there is a cure for the "double post", we call it the edit button, and trust me, it's cool! Check out Fig. 1b for using this groooooooovy feature.
Fig. 1b Once you click on it, it will bring up the same form you used to make the original post... Now edit away!
FAQ Time, kiddies!
Now, a quick n00b forum FAQ!
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------
Q. Why does everyone hate me?! A. Because you are a n00b and make annoying mistakes, or are just annoying. If you have less then 100 posts, be prepared for a little slappin' around, unless you are a well know pixel artist with "mad skills".
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------
Q. WHY ARE ALL OF MY POST IN ALL UPPERCASE?!?! A. Turn off your caps lock, moron. Here is a little tutorial on finding this elusive button:
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------
Q. How do I make pixel art? A. Remember reading about the "Search" feature above, now is a good time to try it!
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------
Q. Why are you such an a$$hole? A. The real question is why are you making me be an a$$hole?
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------
More Tasty Tidbits
IIf you are a n00b, don't even THINK about insulting a veteran. All that will do is ensure your place as a n00b and respect will never be yours, even with amazing pixel art. If you are going to giv a little C&C on someones work, don't just say it suck, tell them WHY it sucks.
If you are going to rip off someone, try not using pieces from the PixelJoint gallery, or from well known artists... You are just making yourself look even more retarded.
NEVER EVER USE JPEG!
If you have anything to add, be sure to let me know.
Please, do your part to help control the n00b population. Have your n00bz educated!

I agree with somethingllitis since it can be frustrating. Occasionaly its fun too, remember DarKuma and the master n00b javascript openWin'pop_up_profile.asp?PF=531&FID=4','profile','toolbar=0,location=0,status=0,menubar=0,scrollbars=1,resizable=1,width=590,height=425'" title="This topic was started: 05 November 2005 at 1:49pm - DrknssCmth?
Maybe, just maybe ......... non-n00bs, need dome basics too.
Take into account the level of skill shown by the artist. Don't go all AA, and selout on someone trying to make a lil'dude.
Use that search button to find the right tutorial or page or sample art that describes your thoughts.
Encourage the person if there is potential and willingness to learn regardless of how n00b they are at the moment.
Remember that jokes/humor doesn't always travel well over the internet, sometimes we start the spam attacks.
When someone wants help with a particular detail, stick to that.
When bored and lurking write PMs to the n00bs and ask why there have been no updates.
Give c+c by going to the level shown by the n00b rather than your own.
I proclaim May 2006 "be nice to n00bs month"
GO AHEAD AND FLAME ME NOW :/

May was last month, you bastard! There, I flamed you, that's all you're getting from me
I agree with all you said. Another thing:
If you are new and someone provides you with some C&C, take it into consideration, most of the time they aren't just blowing smoke up your ass. I have seen alot of pieces go strait from the WiP thread to the gallery without even bothing to do what people suggested.

I can agree wholly with that. *SOMEN00B* posted a WIP, which was promptly critted with a number of decent and reasonable observations, upon which they asked for help cleaning their lines/shading. I cleaned it up and showed them some basic shading they could work from, and they proceeded to ignore my effort and posted the first image of the WIP straight to the gallery. The result? One severely annoyed monkey and one increasingly annoying image for that n00b.
To sum it up, don't do that, n00bs!
