The theme for this isometric collaboration is science, inventions, molecules, germs, atoms, experiments, explosions, germ warfare, Rube Goldberg type things, Steampunky and Cyberpunky. Open to anything at all including mutations of creatures so long as its all within the theme in some manner.

Rules
• You can create more than one tile but your tile may not neighbor your own tile (even diagonally).
• Only one active tile reservation at any one time per participant. You must finish a tile before making a new one.
• Once you reserve a tile you must post an initial WIP within 7 days so it doesn't hold others up.
• Once you post an initial WIP you get 14 days to update your tile or post a comment letting us know its active. Every new WIP/post update (busy, school, work, sick, moving, etc.) thereafter buys you 14 days.
• Outer tiles MUST use transparency to 'break the grid'. (See the last collab edges http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=17176&PN=1 - HERE )
• Inner tiles CAN NOT use transparency.
• You must use the supplied palette colors (16) only, but you don't have to use them all in your tile (Those making outer tiles will have one extra color for transparency).
• NO animations.
• Your tile must match the tiles surrounding yours, unless your tile has no neighbors (first 5 tiles). This will become increasingly tougher as tiles get added. Some tiles will need to match on as many as 4 sides.
• Matching your neighbors does not mean it has to continue their idea/concept. Just that it blends seamlessly somehow.
• Please keep the collab's general light-source and scale as shown below consistent in your tile. This may be tweaked in your tile if you use secondary light sources.
• Please post your tile on its own as a comment and make sure to say what number it is and it will be added to the collab master image by a Collab Manager in order to keep the color palette true.
• Your tile may be added to the master image in WIP stages if it shows the tile's direction enough to help others visualize their own tiles.

Special Rules
• The first 5 tiles may be anywhere at all and require no neighboring tiles.
• From the 6th tile on your tile MUST have at least one neighboring tile already posted that your tile blends into.
If one of the first 5 tiles picked is next to the first 4 tiles then tile number 6 may pick a tile with no neighbors. Or once 5 general starting points have begun.
• In the event that a tile is made without a reservation or 2 people accidentally work on the same tile a special vote may be held, or a duel to the death may be started by the 2 people.
• Special rule(s) may be added to accommodate whatever loophole y'alls manage to find and exploit.

Note
s
• Novice or pro, all are encouraged to collaborate.
• Possible tile rejection if your tile is not in isometric projection or fails in scale.
• Possible tile rejection if your tile does not match and blend into your neighbor(s) tile.
• Possible tile rejection if your tile just doesn't blend in with some degree of harmony. Should this happen to you check for comments left for you...there will be some!
• You can get tips and help to improve your tile on this thread. No need to make a separate WIP thread.
• You are encouraged to take all c+c on your tile. You do not need to apply all given c+c but please don't ignore them. Especially from your neighbor. Remember this is a 'collaboration'.
• Please use the 'PJs Image Specs' link http://wouterpleizier.nl/pj/ - HERE or even more details http://akira.hopto.org/pj/ - HERE to check your final tile colors has max 16 colors (17 if an outer tile) and the right colors.

I'd love to give this a try. However, I don't have all that much experience with iso. Would it be better if I wait in joining up until we're past the "first five tiles" stage so I won't hold this up due to inexperience?

@Silenia, This is a collab to learn from others and bring yourself up in skill since you have to match the neighboring tiles.
I would say in your case to yes, wait until there is some starting point you are comfortable with and then give it a try.
This thread is also a place to get help, ask questions and learn along the way.
We want involvement and don't be shy because others will learn from you too...its a collab :p

Not much to learn from me when it comes to ISO, I'm afraid. :P
Will definitely join in at some point, though. =)

@all, please try to pick tiles that are far away from each other at first. All picked tiles are near each other.
I think speedycube is cool. The rest will have to wait and deal with Gecimen (the meanie).

Hey guys, all of you until now, have their tiles.
SpeedyCube 65
Finlal 42
Peyton 69
Tidybraveguinea 49
Mirre 13

@Speedycube, the guy is perfect.

I'll edit the res list once I get to my own laptop, which will be later today.

Edit: with 5 tiles reserved, let's try to wait for the reserved ones to be completed, since each complete tile will let us reserve 4 more. For this period I will be cancelling reservations much quicker than normal in order not to make people wait.

BUT IF YOU HAVE A VERY GOOD IDEA AND IT CAN'T WAIT, I'LL MAKE EXCEPTIONS.

A neighbor of #77 is already taken. Either wait until its neighbor is done or pick a tile with no neighboring reservations.

I will suggest you to think of something first before reserving a tile. Or wait for others to do some tiles so that they will give you some light.

Use an image host you like and upload your art there and then using the 'tree' icon above paste the link to the file to post it here.

Many in Pixeljoint use imgur.com. Its a good imagehost.

Magitek and mech like things are allowed but I'd encourage you to handle it in terms of science rather than battlefield.

These early WIP tiles are all looking great!

I suggest all play with the palette because its capable of creating way more colors than exist on it.

Speedy, you have a great start.
Maybe lay the ground/setting and then come back in when your neighbors have their setting so you're not bogged down with the details since its so hard to know what details you really need to make the tanks really work and stand out?...just a suggestion.

WIP:

You're using two light grays that aren't a part of the palette, and your lighting is off. I made an edit to correct the lighting, and some possible new color choices: (also, just if you weren't planning on removing him, I don't think you're supposed to use that farmer guy on your tile)

edit: Any way I could shift my tile over to 66? I'll have just a little more space from others and we'll have more available tiles that way later.

@Speedycube; yes of course. 66 is yours now.

Nice edit, thanks.
actually I will correct all lighting and colors, the farmer is only for scale. :3

Update:

I'm having doubts is the choice of colors, if someone have some tip, i need.

@GhostPlayer

The yellow looks better, as with the blue, the electric-thingy looks like the same material as the platform. Make sure you give them seperate colours!

Neighboring #71 is taken and not done yet, so please pick another tile with no neighbors taken.

It's yours then. :)

There will be no more available tiles until some people finish theirs; afterwards the neighboring tiles will be available.

ONLY EXCEPTION IS IF YOU COME WITH A COMPLETE TILE (We don't want to turn back if you spent a lot of effort).

@ all: your neighbors will continue your tiles from all 4 directions; so be sure to not leave your backgrounds empty: unless it's necessary.

I kinda want to give them some interesting things to work with, like pipes or screens or something. No problem.

Posted By: Morbidus
Date Posted: 15 June 2015 at 9:19am
That tile isn't even close to perfection, of course, but I can't improve it any further myself. The background is intended to be black, to represent the vast depth and size of the laboratory.

It's very good.
You can add some antialiasing; here I tried to show some:

I still encourage you to play with the background. Maybe add some dark gray tiles?

I'm marking this as near-complete WIP and adding to the main image so people can continue this from sides. You can improve it as you feel like.

Main image updated.

I don't have CC, it's excellent, and if you want to revise it, detail it or whatever - you can come back and revisit it.

Good job!

Note for newcomers: You CAN do as many tiles as you want as long as they are not neighbors.

So Mirre and Morbidus; you guys can pick another tile and continue.

"Palette" is spelled wrong in the introduction. :/

Nice tile Mirre.

The shapes of the scientists aren't quite right. They should be nearly the same as the example when it comes to size. Also hard to tell it's isometric, you should generally avoid 90 degree lines in iso (except for the sides of walls)

edit: what are yellow tiles numbers for? I don't quite understand

Posted By: jalonso
Date Posted: 15 June 2015 at 5:41pm
The yellow numbers is for the very rare occasion when 2 people end up with the dame tile. It has only happened once, I think.
In that event its a duel...or something :)

If you're taking 4, I'll try my best to get up a WIP of 5 asap. I mean, we're not technically neighbours, but close enough together it might be useful to know somewhat early what the other's doing, I think. (Or am I overthinking stuff?)

wow, that's very hard to read. Maybe you should simplify the floor? Or at least find a way for the scientist to stand out?

Hey Morbidus, nice improvement with the AAing. I did a little edit to your tile with some examples of AA you could add, but by all means disregard this if you don't like it. I haven't done it to the whole tile, mostly just to a part of the left hand side. There is some banding in places that can be easily fixed. I also thought it was a little tricky to see the dragon at first, but not sure if my take on it is much better to be honest. Also aligned the "text" on the sides and made one letter reach all the way to the edge of the tile. This way I can continue it in mine!

The angle of your floor tiles makes this read as incorrect perspective, if you stick to the same angle for all sides of the square it would be much easier to read and look at. Right now it looks like the furniture and character exists on another plane than the floor.

Indeed the floor is not iso. Good catch reo :)
Actually some of the floor tiles use 2:1 lines (iso) but then others are 1:1 (not iso).
The floor needs cleaning up regardless sooooooooo :p

Looks real nice Ghostplayer but know that you can't outline your tile like you have done.
The idea is to blend tiles so noone can't see individual tiles.

Are you adding stuff to liven things up?
