I'm proud to announce my first blitzmax project. It's still in Work In Progress stages, but I'm excited about showing a small demo. This is a bullet hell/danmaku shooter. This means that it requires a large amount of skill and nerve to play due to large amounts of shots on screen at once. You controll a small ship with the arrow keys, using space to fire. THe collision box for the ship is the small dot in the center, the collision box for the shots are marked in blue. YOu may use scraping to gain points and shoot more shots. By scraping i mean flying close to a shot without touching it. The scraping circle is drawn outsice the ship. Bosses have the same number of cells as the level you are playing and are randomly generated. Cells will have more pretty shot patterns later this is just a demo. This demo is only level 5. It will be realesed freeware whe finished.

OOH FUN. I'll edit once I d/l it.

It was kind of boring. Maybe add some small enemies like kamikaze, or try to give the bullets trails or something else for a bit more craziness. I liked it overall, as soon as it gets colors and a blackish BG, it'll be a lot more fun.

Pretty tight P_O!  Im loving the 'bullet hell' of it.  BlueStar has a similar game, but its an online multiplayer, and the massive amounts of bullets on screen seems to be a very fun feature according to BlueStar's beta-testing group, same thing for fast-paced game play.

Yeah more bullet patterns will emurge soom enough. The screen elements need some work too this is just a wip so far.

Definately needs more bullet patterns but you have a very nice start :D
But it seems kind of awkward that it's hard at the beginning of the boss and easier later. But then again, I suppose there's not much to do about that..

Either way: keep it up! Can't wait to see more :]

OK I've just finished the main portion of the game, now you can get a better feel for how the bosses change from level to level.

it has some nice things added, changed the shot patterns to randoom and added the possibility to change the color scheme.

use 1,2,3 to cycle through hues.

 

My highest level was 8 see how far you can go!

I have added a highscore table, changed bullet layout, and fixed some bugs. I would be interested to see how well you play. If you could record your playing that woud be great. I'm just trying to get a feel for how people might play differently. The bullet removal bomb(x button) should work 100% now.

That was excitingly fast.
The "scrape" thing was great.
And even on simple graphics, I still enjoyed it.
Are you going to upgrade to better graphics?

nice game. pretty fun to play and doesn't get too boring; starts off moderately fast paced.

OK I know that you are probably sick of seeing my game pop to the top with minor updates. With that being said I would like to present something more fruitfull than some other updates.

I'm adding a feature to allow for full color choosing. The colors do NOT have to be my choice anymore. I want this to feel like YOUR customizable game. I think that alowing for full R,G,B color choosing will let you feel more involved. I plan to make some default paletts aswell as a slot for ONE CUSTOM saved palatte. Please do me a huge favor and post pics of your favorite colors and the recipies for each one, If they are good enough they will be added as default options. You are proud color choosers, please show us your skill.

This is the public release version.Please DL it from the showcase and rate it. This was my first blitzmax game and I wanted it purely line based (no raster). It's not the most pretty but it does have some style to it I think. Thee should be a Mac version on the way too. :)

(It's called GRX_public_release)

w00t. I really like this game, some ideas though;

- you should get an extra life at 1000000 points
- maybe be able to shoot apart the falling enemy corpses
- make enemies flash when they are close to dying
- more visual effects
- more sound effects to improve feedback of what's going on, such as scraping
- maybe have a half-bar bomb, where if you hit x when the bar is at least half full, all bullets within a certain radius of your ship die, whereas a full bar bomb will destroy all bullets on the screen and slightly damage all enemies.
- make it so enemies dont spawn on top of eachother like they do sometimes
- make it so its not possible for enemies to spawn insanely close to the bottom of the screen
- maybe have in the later levels there is a chance that not all enemies will spawn at the start of the level, and as enemies die the new ones spawn to maintain the pace of the level.
- have bonus rounds say at between level 8 and 9, and later on, where you have a chance to gain an extra life or extra points or something, I imagine it like, its 7 or 8 enemies you have to kill without dying, if you die you don't lose a life, you just lose the bonus round and it jumps to the next level. If you kill them all you get whatever reward there is
- maybe be able to store multiple bombs by collecting them in bonus rounds or have them drop sometimes from destroying a falling enemy corpse

It's really a great idea, I love it, good practice for games like Raiden, too, I think .

EDIT:

- the ability to turn off the music.
- make it so you get a full bar if you die (bar resets in other words)
