2D top-down RPG
Team name:
Razor Team (not registered)
Brief description:
Razormoon is going to be tactical top-down RPG with classic
graphics, featuring deep history of the world (~50 pages in my notebook by now
:) ), fun gameplay, and balanced stats...
Project history:
The development of Razormoon started about 8 mounts ago, but
I had troubles with my computer, and with internet, so I wasn't able to lead
the team, it fell apart, that was about 2 months back, and we didn't do
anything after that, but I decided not to let go of this project, i programmed
new engine, script and GUI systems, so from programming side the project is on
good grounds. My main goal now is to find a capable and dedicated artist to
fill the position of main artist and that he start developing some original art
for this game(last time we used free stuff) and when that position is
filled I’ll try and contact other members that worked on this project in the
past.
Target aim:
Freeware
Compensation:
No money involved since the game is going to be freeware.
Technology:
VB6
-things already made:
Script Engine - 100% (my own)
GUI System - 100% (again my own)
Rendering Engine - 100% (DirectX 8)
Talent needed:
The main reason of this employment post is to get artist to
join!!! The game didn't, till now, have any original art; we used tiles,
characters, monsters that can be found on the internet...
-- The project would require following art to be done:
1. Human male, female and child sprite\template
(32x48 size), by template I mean that you will be able to easily
change hair/face/clothes so that you can assemble your own character in the
game. The sprite would require: stand, walk left/right/up/down, attack, spell
cast and dead animation/frames.
example:

2. Monster sprites, they can be any size, but
the width of the image has to be in 32x ratio, e.g. 32x48,64x30,96x100 .... it
would require: stand, walk and other animations depending on the monster.
but the monster sprites wouldn't need to be done at first
example:

3. Tiles, (32x32 size). With my skills I'm
capable of making stuff like ground, water, grass.... but I would need an
artist to make other stuff like: houses, trees, and other level depending
tiles.

Team structure:
No one is, currently, on the team but me, I'll send emails
to former members to see if they want to rejoin.

I made it few days back and it is partially WIP but looks ok
for now...
And i made only one forum section, but will expand it when
more people join!

Story:
Razormoon
Razormoon is going to be a 2D-RPG with semi-tactical
battles, a huge world (or should I say time,) a fantastic twisting story, and
even multiplayer features. The game is developed with the Razor Engine (you can
find it in download section), It is an engine that is programmed in VB6 and
DirectX8, and it is open source. Here follows some of the basic storyline:
The entire game takes place in the fantasy worlds of
"Razormoon" ("Razormoon" is a term that people in this
world use for two parts of a planet that orbit each other, and also for the
moment in time when the world split and formed the "Razormoon").
History of the Razormoon
Before there was a planet called Luxra; it was the perfect
place for life, true Garden of Eden; the people lived there in prosperity and
life was mostly bearable. Until the "Razormoon", the splitting
occurred, a result of technology pushed to the limits, and destroying
everything in its path. Time Travel was discovered. Extensive (and expensive)
research was done on this new path of science, until great experimental
machines of gargantuan size were built across the world. Until the splitting of
the world. A great explosion raged through the planet, and ash and dust was
blasted into the sky, from places where none had been for thousands of years.
And the sun was darkened. Nobody knows how many days the sun wasn't seen, but
when the light finally returned. But the night had not been great. From deep
within the planet, and from the side of Luxra that was most covered in
darkness, monsters emerged; pale white monstrosities. The Luxrans died by
millions during the perpetual blind, until the sun finally managed to bring
some order back to the planet. Still clouds of ash and dusts move across the
planet, blocking out the sun and allowing the people of the night to emerge.
Those who survived the slaughter managed to overcome their injures and tried to
make a living on their tortured world. That was the end of second age in the
year 1304. On one of the shards of the planet, people managed to survive. The
old culture and technology was lost forever, though bits and pieces are still
in working order, and among the greatest marvels of man. Scars on the planet
show where the people of the night destroyed huge cities, which once allowed
millions to call home. That side of the planet has kept its name: ‘Luxra’ But
on the other shard, something was different. People who survived soon learned
that they weren’t alone The ash and dust didn’t settle, and the world stayed in
eternal shadows: the creatures of the darkness crawled out of their deep homes
in the rocks, and fed upon which they found, for they had been without food for
a long time. The historians of Luxra suspect that the creatures have been
living under the soil for ages past, but only came out now due to the dark sky,
as they could not easily live under sunlight. None of the humans that survived
the splitting survived on that side of the planet, as the sun never returned.
The communication between the shards was lost in the ‘Shadow Age’ (year 3 - 42
of 3rd age). The only thing for sure was that the other planet never, ever, had
any illumination so the Luxrians called it Noxra, from the word ‘Nox’.
Ripples in Time
The experiment that destroyed Luxra and created the
Razormoon, wasn’t a total failure, as one scientist managed to get the
equipment functioning, and traveled to the future; the year 98 of the third
age, four years after the first civil war on the Razormoon. The world he
entered was even more wrecked than what the experiment caused, as people and
Noxrians still fought over the lands. He realized what he caused, and decided
to set out on a mission to prevent any such disaster from ever happening again.
He gathered a few bright Luxrians around him, and formed a council for time
travel, an organization to prevent all research and experiments with time
altering. Meanwhile he perfected his own time machine, and placed his
headquarters outside time and space, in an ethereal place where only energy
ought to exist. From there he could see all time. He realized that research
wasn’t the only thing threatening the recovering world. Strange things,
anomalies, happened in both the past and future, as ripples from the Razormoon
accident. Monsters grew to enormous sizes, mountains sprang out of the ground
suddenly, and the very history of the world was changing. For this, he formed a
team; a team that was sent through the breach in time towards a ripple in time,
to prevent anything from happening that shouldn’t have, or otherwise repairing
the damage done to the world. Balancing time was their job; and YOU are among
the scientist’s ranks!
Early alpha demo:
Here is the download link ( ~2 mb ) UPDATED: http://razormoon.sourceforge.net/files/v0_05.zip - http://razormoon.sourceforge.net/files/v0_05.zip
If you get any errors it probably because you don't have VB6
runtime, you can download it here:

Instructions:
arrow keys - moving around
left mouse button - selecting enemy (target)
"i" button - display info, fps, timer
count ...
"c" button - enable/disable collision
When you get in to battle, and when it is your turn you can
move around in the red squares, select the enemy you want to attack and move
close to him, then hit the "Attack" button that is located at the
bottom right, when it's your turn during the battle. When you press it you will
deal certain amount of damage to your opponent and your turn will end.
This is just a little show off ... battle will have many
other attacks, skills, magic.... Also there will be bonuses depending on the
battle location..... And much more, i would give this version 0.05 so 5% of the
game ( I mean gameplay, not maps etc. )
