I submitted my first piece last night but it was rejected because it didn't meet the quality standards. So I'm looking around to see if there is anything written about the quality standards of submitted items but I find nothing on it.

Show your piece so i can tell you what's wrong with it.

The quality standards are quite simply what the mods think are good enough or not. There are also other things that will stop pieces from getting in the gallery, including silly backgrounds, general effort taken, non pixel art, rips... etc.

rips sometimes get through

Also, try and use common sense? Does it meet/exceed some of the worst stuff here? Does it meet/exceed some of the better stuff here? ect.

I'm going to be the first to take the step to tell you that that is quite sh*tty.

And here's why;
First off, the ground isn't in perspective to the peice.
It's just a flat 2d square with a lin through it.

Nothing at all is in the same perspective I might add.
It seems as though you've randomly thrown around triangles from a different angles.

Now, the color is too repetitive.
Try adding some contrast to your peices all that yellow burns my eyes.

You've also added pointless un-needed dithering on the cube.

You have no shadows.
And you don't have one consistant light source.

Is that a girl?
Why are her shoes black with grey outlines.
Lack of effort?

Also your colors need some saturation, seems you've just used one single yellow and changed the shade of it.
Try using more versitile colors, especially on the "girl's" hair.

The quality standards reside in the heads of the people that accept the art. So if they don't think it's good enough, they don't let it through.

Listen to what souly has to say. He offers wise counsel.

We'll its great that you choose to make art rather than do other more self destructive things.

anyhoo, I think this may not have accepted for various reasons. There is very little colors variations and on such a big piece it looks boring. I think this size canvas is way to big for you to handle succesfully at the moment. Try something smaller and work your way up as you learn.

As jalonso said go for a smaller peice.
I agree that you can't quite handle a large canvas.
(Hell I can barely handle a semi-medium sized peice let alone a 700 x 400.)

Anyways, I'd suggest practising by making a good avatar.
(Which is 64 x 64 size)
But make sure that before you submit it straight to the gallery.
That you post each work in the WIP (Work in Progress) forum.

This way you can get help on how to improve on each peice of art.
Even the pros need C+C now and then.
Not everything you do will be perfect, so as the saying goes...

Practise makes perfect.
(Well close to it anyways)

ACK! I was going for something surreal here but looks like I didn't capture that here. The reason why I only use one color is cuz there isn't suppose to be other colors used.

If it doesn't meet the quality standard then fine. I just hope my other stuff is acceptable.
