On to the next BG for the fighting game. This time the theme is Gothic.
This is my first draft. I went with the obvious Notre Dame Cathedral
for inspiration. Like the other BGs this will have a monochromatic
color for the background. I may end up with purple which was my first
thought but experimented with gold instead? The layers that will be
seperated for the parralex effect are show in gradating shades of gold.
The grey area is the fixed fighting platforms. c+c most welcome.
EDIT: This time I made lineart first, very rare for me.

I loove the lines, but the stained glass is too saturated and looks like static. KUTGW, >('')<

Should have mentioned that on my post MoD :/
That is just static noise. I made that to find the right shade of gold
and purples to use on this. I will redraw all the windows later on. I
do think they will remain somewhat saturated to achieve the stained
glass look, tho not this much.
EDIT: What I would really like to know now is if this is THE right setting or should it be something else, calling ALL emos

Jalonso, looks great. I'm loving what you're doing with the parralex effect. I really do like the gold, but perhaps purple and blue tones would give it a colder, more gothark feel. It also seems like the platforms are in the wrong perspective compared to the rest... perhaps? Anyway, great start.

Great start. I love the detail you have going on the cathedrals, especially since you've definately got the correct arcitecture (sp?), flying buttresses and all. XD
I agree that the window is saturated too much, which you probably have already realized.
I think this would look cool in a greyscale version with some rain animation. :) Not to mention some wicked gargoyles. (But it's going to look awesome regardless because you kick ass at these backgrounds)
Otherwise, nice start. You're doing really awesomely on these backgrounds. Can't wait to see how it turns out! :)

I think the gold color is not gothic enough so I've gone with my first instict of blue/purple. right?
Lar, the perpective thing I will solve with sculptures and trees, used to hide the obvious change yet maintain some distance.

OOOH. YES.
Fantastic update. Quite an intimidating feel to it now.
And i actually sillilly didn't picture the foreground-background connecting to the fighting platforms that way... guh *slaps self slightly*

I think, quite honestly, that it would take me an entire, painstaking week to acheive even one step of one of your WIPS.
You're insane. I don't care if anything is physically impossible in it; I don't care to look any further than at its surface awesomeness.

Hmm, much better color choice and a great update. I, however, preferred the original's stained glass windows. They seemed to almost have the perfect saturation. It's probably just me, though.

I think the original glass is too bright, and this update is just a bit too dull, the glass almost matches the sidewalk. I think it would work better if you only upped the saturation of the red pixels, to over take the blue. Red will also enhance the goth vibe.
Other than that your update is awesome!

I don't believe however, that the glass would glow on a dark night, unless there was a light on inside the cathedral, well then the stained glass would be much lighter, not just slightly. Although they do seemed unfinished at the moment, in terms that the walls have highlights and yet the glass does not. I'm sure you already knew this though... lawl.

Major update. seems the stained glass was leading to trouble. I really
did'nt like the whole church thing and I think I came up with a better
scene. It's a gothic estate viewed from the gardens. How is it now.

The ONLY THING that didn't increase exponentially in awesome in the latest update would be the platform-to-background connections. In the previous update there was some drag from the rightmost cathedral to the platform in the foreground. Now I'm not getting that feel, and the ground looks like the top of a very flat cathedral. It's confusing, and orgasmic, but you've set me off on a good bout of critting, soooo yeah. I'm bound to find something wrong with it.

Almost done, I think. You can't see it here but I seperated the image
into the 6 layers. I also redid the connection from the platform to the
left had side building (thx Sab). The tree roots looked really wierd
with the walking stones so I added plants and a lower hedge to cover it
up.
