I manage an European game engine development group. We are soon presenting one of our engines (an isometric mmog engine) to investors and need some characters for our demo world.

We need some characters like this: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/9485412/ drawn facing 9 directions, in various posses: standing, moving, etc. Details like theme. races and ambientation are yet to be determined but it will probably be a typical medieval fantasy world.

We have a tiny budget for this work but dozens of other works (with series of objects, animals, trees) should follow this, and because we want our artwork to be consistent chances are that we will chose the same artist in the future so take this into consideration. Payment scheme would now be one-time pay-per-character/object.

We don't need your work to closely resemble the example provided, freedom is given and any style will be taken into consideration as long as the artist can produce a consistent imaginary.

Since this is initially going to be presented privately, artwork doesn't need to be original; anything you can reuse from your previous works is fine and encouraged (if they are royalty free).

If you are interested please contact me via private message in this forum or answer this post with the url of your portfolio if you've got one.

Sounds like a nice oppurtunity for a pixel artist.

Is it possible for the pixel artists interested in working with you to see the game engine so they can make an informed decision?

As you will understand we are not releasing more information about our engine publicly. Nevertheless, we are willing to provide the person that works with us with:
- Access to a test server
- FTP access to the test server data files
- Client binaries
- Engine documentation
- Format specifications
- Editing tools

Indeed, our first intention was to just "buy" artwork and the right to use them commercially, but we have have no problem if the pixel artist wants to get more involved, among other things because we understand that motivation is the most important aspect of every creative work.

PS: I forgot to mention that we can provide screenshots and a description of the engine components to the people interested, but just that.

If you can't publicly reveal it, maybe you should try using pm's.
