I've been trying to learn to sprite faces and characters and stuff and this is my first attempt. Something feels really off about it and I don't really know what.

(4 colors and black)

The biggest thing that stands out to me is the difference between the colors on the skin. one has a pink tone and the other is a more brown tone. It's fairly close and I would change the pink tone more than the brown.

Also maayyybe the eyes are a bit high but otherwise I think the overall shape and detail is decently done

I made an edit:

I did alot of extra shading and stuff, but here are the main things I did. First, I moved the mouth up 1 pixel, and the eyes down 1 pixel. This is the only difference in the 3rd image in the edit. I think just doing this already improves it alot. I also added an extra row of pixels to the top of the head, increased contrast, added a color, got rid of the black and the outlines, and used the highlight less sparingly. Google an image of a face with a strong direct light source to help you with the shading.
