i got really inspired by jalonso's backgrounds (especially the gothic-ish one, so it might look a small bit like that one :P) so i decided to make one myself :O so far i got the ground and part of the heaven done and i just decided to use 16 colors max. anyways, here ye go:

i will probably add some house thingy or something in the background too. and this isnt for some game or anything, i just felt like pixeling something >_>

crit away :D

Hey, that swirly cloud is quite impressive  I can't think of anything to go on the right... perhaps a power station, and it could be producing those clouds.

Looking so great already. The only thing that stands out so far is the
door on the castle which seems very flat. A little bit of shadowing on
the left side would fis that.
The sky on the first is random and interesting. The update sadly
seems to have taken a "black hole" or vortex kinda look on the
update which is a bit distracting.
The colors are perfect!

Look great and coming along nice. But I would make the bricks smaller on the castle.

because the swirl is "awesome" [lots of alternating contrast between the shades] that's going to be your focal point; almost anything else you put on the canvas will be lost in comparison. I didn't even notice antyhing other than a door and part of a castle until my 3rd time looking at the image. you need to make the foreground [bushes, ground] pop alot more; be that adding shades with more saturation or whatever, because otherwise it really wont matter what you put there; because with the hues you have now you can't even see the bushes.

[edit] After taking another look, it came to my mind that it's quite possible you worked on this at 8/10x zoom, and haven't really cared how it looked in 1x view; or anything below 8, because while the details are not lost zoomed that far in, I doubt many people will actually zoom that far.

Looks great so far, and I love the sky. But the bricks on the castle do need to be much smaller.

Every pixel counts, even the dead ones.

thanks for all the crits! really giving me inspiration to continue on this piece.
i dont really know if ill continue on the one with the castle tho (i still have all crit in my mind so i can make it better tho), so ive made an alternate version which will focus more on the sky. the other small details i put there will hopefully still be noticeable :P

might change some of the clouds there and might change the ground to just a hill or something (i think that would fit better on this one) and i hope you can all see what the little glowy thingy on the right is :P its still 11 colors btw

nice! :) is there going to be a HUD of sorts?

If you're making a zombie like game, the hangman could be an extra life or something like that. :P

This new take is interesting. I just think the sharpness in the lower floor bit doesn't really match the softness of the hanged man, or the clouds for that matter. The glow around the man is nice and mysterious though.

@Aleiav: probably not, since im not planning to make a game out of it. unless someone wants to program it for me :P
@Lawrence: i will most likely change the ground to some hill or something.. i really feel like continuing on it now >_>
*vanishes like a ninja*

edit: the style of this piece just pretty much changed quite a bit :P

i dont know about the shadow on the hill.. it doesnt look very good to me. and i might change the detailed clouds and then make all clouds fit the new style more. and then add a moon instead of that swirly vortex/tornado whatever its called thingy >_> meh ill see what happens

I love those speckled highlights. even if they look out of place on grass. they seem more fitted for a rocky road or something, but they still rock.

@Setzer: well, i didnt really know how else i should highlight the grass since i want it to be simple.. couldnt really get anything to look good.

and ive changed all the clouds on the left side but theres no moon yet meh.

next up is the moon and then detailing on the clouds. theres 8 colors now (i dont think i missed counting anyone)

Looks really awesome quickie

Is this an actual game you're doing?

The way the grass is highlighted makes it look like it's very wet. Perhaps you could work a rainy theme into this?

I personally like the light highlights in the sky that you originally have, you just need to continue them throughout the whole sky.

The grass looks alright, but I perfer the castle setting personally.

Can't wait to see how this ends up!
