This is my first attempt animating a a character sprite,im planning on using it in a flash game im currently planning.

So far, i've made all the movements i can think of, I'm going to change the facial expressions when he's jumping, and when he falls.



Anything else you guys think will make it look better?

How about animating them so we can see if it looks smooth or not?
I like the style, but the body seems a bit off..

Woah.. jumps way too high, and the lack of frames for that makes the animation look rather poor. Decrease the jump height and it should look better.

The pause was just to show you his standing stance, when you stop pressing forward.

Yeah, im going to work on the jump animation aswell.
The reason he goes so high, is because iwant him to be able to double jump.
And the highest frame is his second jump, if you get what i mean.

ok here are some updates in the animation:


Walk:



Jump:


Double jump:


Now im going to work on facial expressions.

You should add some sort of air movement that happens just as he double jumps.

the walk and normal jump animation looks great, maybe you can add some leg movement in the air for double jump

I wouldnt use that pure black on the shoe, especially since you havent used it in any other part of the sprite. It draws to much attention to the shoes :P

Updates:

First, i edited the facial expression slightly on the jumps.
Then i tried abit on air movment, and hair movment as sugested for the doube jump.
And lastly, i changed the black on the shoes to a grey.

The double jump just looks like a taller single jump. Perhaps have him flipping for the second half, or some other way to show differentiation?

Nice design and shading so far. :) Very cool. Can't wait to see how the sprite looks on a background!

I think your jumps might look more convincing if you had the character move foreward at least a little like he was jumping over something. That might take a bit more work animation wise, but it would let us see how your jump would look in a game while he is moving foreward. It might actually look fine in the aspect but since he's jumping up and down and not moving it makes it look a little disorienting.
