Hey,

as it's not easy to show what I draw in stereoscopy, I'll show you some red and blue anaglyph.

My first attempt is inspired from 2001: Space Odyssey. It's the Discovery One Spaceship.

To see it in relief, put you red and blue glasses on and look at the next picture Nota: the bigger the picture, the best the effect, so I doubled the resolution. Other solution is to cross your vision to superpose the two above pictures. This way, you'll see it with the right colors.

I hope you'll like it.

Wonderful !
I can't find words to describe my amazement!
I tried combining pixel art with stereoscopic 3d effects before, and only succeeded in making simple shapes appear further than other ones (triangles, spheres, ...) I had problems with complex objects.
What is the technique you used to make the perfect rotation of the object in each of the two images (the correct angle for each eye)? Is there a tutorial for that? I'm really hyped!
Anyway, great work of art there Arvester :D

First, tahnk you so much for your feedback ! It's really appreciated

There are some tools in ProMotion NG that simplifies a lot the process. It's possible to draw the two parts of the picture at once, and to tell how much gap between the two pens you want.
Or, as I did for this picture, I chose to draw all the left-eye part then clone it to the right eye part, juggling with the gap on the fly. ProMotion NG is expensive but almost all the stereo-drawing features are included in the free version.

A bigger positive gap is translated in more depth by the brain. With a negative gap, the object will be pushed out of the picture and appear closer. In this picture I worked with a gap from 2 pixels (the thrusters) to 15 (the stars). Putting aside close and far objects intensifies the effect.
The tricky part is to think in 3 dimensions even if the picture is made of two 2 dimensions parts. Because each close object will hide a little of the distant ones on its edges. You can see an example around the antenna, some stars only appear in one part. Working with layers helps a lot too !

In total, I spent about 15 hours on this picture.

15 Hours well spent :)

3D effect is one of the "effects" or "features" that I want to master within pixel art, along with casual ones such as lighting, animation, material-based textures, angles of view, parallax, pseudo-voxels(such as in many ismoteric arts)...

I will take your advice my friend, and if I make something worthy, I may show it to you, if you don't mind.

Btw i faved it on the queue and rated it 5/5, however I cannot vote yet (still a newbie) .

Good Job my friend.

I'm glad you like it :) If you want more advice about stereo drawing and Pro Motion NG, I suggest you to contact http://pixeljoint.com/p/129303.htm - Morintari , he's the one who teached me how to use the software, and he's pretty good at it.

Here is the first ever try I made at stereo drawing, only two months ago:

It's to him that I owe the evolution of my skills.

I agree with you, 3D effect is really great and oddly satisfying, I feel that my pictures come to life when I look at it in anaglyph (I don't have a 3D monitor) and it's so pleasing ! I'd love to see your work, don't be afraid to post (on this thread maybe ? It could become a general 3D pixel art thread, not only my work's thread).

It could be cool to gather advice on this kind of pictures here, because it's slightly different from "usual" drawings I think.

And thank you for the rating ^^
