I need help with shading/highlight especially with the form of my object, which is an armor chestplate inspired by an asset in RuneScape. And of course, this is just for practice, and not for monetary gain.
I choose the light source to be at the top.
But I'm confused...maybe I need to learn more about cross-contouring to see where to shade/highlight?
It would be nice if someone could explain to me what I'm doing wrong. I have problems "going along" with the form of the object, so that might be why I am having trouble finding where to shade/highlight...
So if someone could help me, please. Thank you!
edit again:
cleared some jaggies.

Okay. So I read some things, and it would seem like I need to break down objects into simple shapes to help with the shading/highlighting.
But...I have no idea how to break down my armor into simple shapes because of the way it looks.

How about thinking of it like a rectangle (waist area) with a roughly spherical or American football-shaped chest? The pauldrons are quarters of spheres. You don't need to include all the details in this initial "basic forms" pass, you can tweak your shadows to add the details later.
Also, this should probably be in the WIP forum, and you should post 1x sprites without pre-zooming. The forum has a zoom feature, you can click to zoom in and ctrl+click to zoom out.
