Update: All positions other than UI have been filled.
Hello all! We at Realmsoft are looking to fill a few different pixel art positions for a Mega Man/Metroidvania hybrid game set in a steampunk/sci-fi universe, called Ambrosia. These are paid positions to be filled immediately. We generally allow for a lot of artistic freedom, though we do occasionally have a specific look in mind for a particular concept.
To apply, please send an email to realmsoftdevs@gmail.com along with the position(s) you are applying for and requested rate.
Additional information about the game can be found below the job requests.

Background Artist
This is a very straightforward position. Each area will have one or more parallax backgrounds. These are drawn in a more typical straight-on perspective and shouldn’t present a major challenge.
The environments will range from the natural — forests, snowy mountains — to the artificial — steampunk-inspired cities, factories, as well as crumbling ruins. The biggest holes in our assets have to do with the island’s big city, so please know that working with us to concept and create the Steampunk/Victorian environments will be a big focus.
Weapon Artist
As a purely cosmetic item, the weapon and customization menus will feature a large preview display of weapons. These weapons can be customized with unique parts which will alter the weapon visually. The image above is some fine programmer art (haha ;) that represents the rough size were are looking for. The mods may affect weapons along their “depth”, such as side-by-side barrels, so keep in mind that the final art will need to be slightly angled to show the front of weapons. If ¾ view is more your style, we could go that route instead.
In addition, much smaller versions of the weapons will need to be created for the in-game player sprite. These won’t need to reflect the weapon customizations, though it may be desired for some of the more dramatic cosmetic changes (to be determined). The game features roughly 14 unique weapons.
UI/Menu Artist
This position involves designing the artwork for the game’s HUD, as well as the art for the various menu interfaces. Working with us to translate the steampunk/victorian motifs into the interface and various other elements will be the main job here.
UX Designer
This is a position separate from UI Artist, though one person could do both. The UX Designer will help with the look and feel of the game’s menus and interface. The designs can be done either as mockup screens or directly via the in-game editors.
About the game
Ambrosia is a side-scrolling Metroidvania with Mega Man-esque action, that combines an aesthetic of steampunk/victorian with sci-fi elements. It follows an inventor named Iris as she investigates the island of Aspida — a scientific hub which mysteriously went dark.
Iris’ ingenuity enables Ambrosia’s rules-based customization system, in which you create unique weapon configurations from a wide array of mods that each add new rules and effects.
Ambrosia goes for a retro 32-bit pixel art style, think along the lines of PS1-era 2D games. The island Aspida has a wide range of locales high and low, so there’s lots of fun variety to play with.
Primary development of Ambrosia is nearing completion. The game is now somewhere between 80% to 90% complete. However, we still need most of the artwork for various positions, those posted here, and that's where your job comes in!
