Ok here's the latest development.

Not quiet as good as I hoped for, but I cant pinpoint what's wrong.

I want to make it pop a bit more, make it more readable. I tried adding an outline but it make it looks so fat.

Any suggestion ?

Your issue appears to be one of contrast. Play around with the saturation and brightness/value levels of each color in your ramps. See if you can find a specific method of saturation shifting that works in favor of your image. Do saturated highlights and desaturated shadows work the best, or does the opposite method work better?

As I did for the chatterbox recently, I'll give you the example for saturation shifting from https://gumroad.com/l/pixel-logic - Pixel Logic :

Play with the colors as well. You may find that hue shifting a little more drastically could result in the contrasts you’re looking for.

The overall design of the sprite looks great, by the way. Good shapes, good shading.

Thanks for the link !!

I actually bought that book a while ago but totally forgot about its existence !

Gonna give it a thorough read.

I think my color skills are pretty weak indeed, I dont really consciously pick the colors I want. I dont really know how to motivate my decision. Although I know the very basics, like shadows should be more blue because of sky ect ... it never really look good in my drawings.

Anyway, gonna take a look at that book.

Hello again!

So I checked out that book again, and restarted the sprite from scratched, thinking about color from the get go.

Heres the result, with and without secondary light source. What do you guys think ?

Oh wow, that's one hell of an improvement! The contrast and colors are perfect, and the overall design looks even better than before. Damn good job there!
