Meh, support section seems okay to me.
How did you find out it had a virus? I've never had any problems with it in the past (before i got a photobucket account).

Avast. Its a Virus Scan that scans each webpage if it has a virus and it automatically blocked off Imageshack.
And i dunno what the virus does

Pieface, in my knowledge things like that block random websites all the time. I'm not sure why, perhaps it's cus of some advertisement or something, but i doubt you could get a virus from hosting there... although i won't try for a while. Heheh.

You wouldent see most things happening, active x is a major security problem. Yes active x makes i.e. a bit more powerful but it also makes it extremely unsecure. If I only run firefox or opera i get very little malware but using i.e. gets me quite a bit.
But I dont think its "Imageshack" thats causing this but probably one of its adverts. MySpace had this problem a short time back
you might want to check out open dns

Okay use IE for a week and then run Ad-aware. I guarantee over 100 spywares! Use Firefox for a year. I guarantee under 5.

Stop bashing IE. If you configure it right, you're very safe. Last time I ran spybot, I got no results, and McAffee always comesback negative.

You literaly cannot configure i.e. to be "very safe" its impossible, not even firefox and opera can be considered "very safe" due to security flaws in the OS.
I am running Spybot, Ad-Aware, Microsoft anti-spyware, spywareblaster and AVG and I still get spyware I also head over to trend micros site and run they're antivirus/antispyware checker. If your only running those two programs you may want to get some others (Mcaffee is considered to be bloatware and you might want to find a different program to use)
Most security guys say not to use McAffee, Norton or Trend Micro, sure they work really well but thyre bloatware and if your a virus programmer dont you think youll try to write a virus that can bypass those?

Gees, I use Opera and Firefox and no matter what I use, every time I run Adaware i get 300+ spywares, and I can't get rid of the little bastards. On the other hand on one computer I randomly use IE, OPera and Firefox adn no problems, so its probably just my laptop being infected...but I cant fix it...
And yeah, the whole images-hack.us has alot to do with it being blocked.

I use IE, default config, and never had any trouble with spyware. Guess I'm leading a charmed life or something.
I also use Avast and it hasn't griped about Imageshack to me. *shrug*

sorry to necropost, but i had too... buzz, the problem isnt your browser. some spyware are so well made, that they actually become part of your OS, and then cannot be removed. they basically become a backdoor, and then companies pay the company that made that backdoor a nominal fee for a program that allows them to install spyware/malware on your pc without you know... reinstalling windows is ur only option to fix it...
and it doesnt matter how you configure IE, the problem with it is security holes and vulnerabilities

Well Im an Internet security major and as Far as I have seen imageshack is full to the brim with spyware not viruses, spyware and malware just jack up your PC without doing any permanant damage. Say blocking your internet connection, Messing with your antivirus so it blocks the programs you use the most, annoying crap like that. They also pass out alot of tracking cookies that give you popups and junk like that. Photobucket is a better solution but if you dont seem to have a problem with imageshack is because you dont notice it.

incorrect. there are many malwares out there that do permanent damage to your registry. i have had it happen several times.

Whatever damage that happend can be fixed or replaced. So its not permanant, But everyone should NOT use image shack. It sucks.

tracking cookies that give you popups
Cookies can't give you popups unless a site specifically looks for the cookie and shows a pop-up if it exists.

permanent to an install of windows, it is. if we are going by your theory here, there is no such thing as permanent... if a hard drive fails, its not permanent, we can just replace it...
and where are you going to school? i have never heard of internet security as a major
