[PAID] Pixel Artist for Combat Animations – Test Commission for Indie Game Demo

[UPDATE] Position filled. Thanks to everyone who reached out. I’ll update if any new positions open in the future.

At the moment I’m working on a 30-minute or so long demo for a top-down indie RPG inspired by Undertale and Sekiro, with real time combat. The overworld has a minimalist pixel style (think Omori), but in battle, the focus shifts to action gameplay with stagger, parry, and combo systems. Along with some character swap systems, much like Wuthering Waves.

This is my first public project. In short, its a solo dev project. I am an indie developer working in Godot. Music is being composed by a collaborator.

**Animation Style References**

Looking for an artist experienced in pixel animation for action combat

Visual style references include:

GBA Fire Emblem (sharp timing, impactful posing)

Katana Zero (fluidity + smear effects)

Early Guilty Gear (stylized key poses)

Castlevania (snappy anticipation and rhythm)

Modern anime games like Wuthering Waves or Genshin Impact, especially for effects.

Must be able to add fluidity, impact, and personality to existing base animations.

(You are welcome to contact me and ask for more in depth examples, such as videos or clips.)

**My Current Combat Animations**

You’ll be working with the drafts I have made at the moment. Your job would be to clean them up and improve clarity, form, flow, etc. while keeping the core motion and identity intact.

**Animations to improve:**

3-hit sword combo

~4 frames per slash, 12 total

3-hit punch combo

~10 frames total (2x3-frame punches + 1x4-frame finisher)

Stagger punish

2 punches + 1 heavy slash (=11 frames)

All animations are 64x64, and I’ll be sending the Aseprite files with notes on timing, feel, and intent.

This is for a short test job, polishing placeholder animations for the male protagonist. Timeline: ideally within 1-2 weeks of agreeing to terms.

**Payment**

(Paid) This is a test commission to polish three animations. Budget is limited but negotiable depending on quality and turnaround time. Ideal range is ~$15–$25 per animation.
This is a minimalist game, so the goal is readability and feel

**Requirements**

Strong pixel animation experience (especially combat)

Works in or can export to Aseprite

Able to take rough animation and refine it

Good communicator (I’ll provide notes and feedback, but collaboration is key)

**Bonus**

If things go well, there’s more work later: character portraits, tilesets, bosses, UI, etc.
