Working title (independent project)
Independent developer (solo-led project)
Project Type: 2D Tactical RPG
Status: Early production / pipeline definition phase
This is an independent, long-term game project currently in active development, focused on establishing a high-quality foundational art pipeline
Role: Pixel Artist (Characters & Animation)
Scope: One foundational humanoid character sprite set
Deadline: Target delivery within ~15 days of work agreement (timeline flexible with communication and iteration)
This initial commission focuses on creating a canonical base character that will define proportions, directionality, and animation standards for the project.
Asset & Technical Specifications
• Resolution: 48×48 pixels per frame
• Perspective: 3/4 top-down tactical view
• Directions: True 8 facings (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW – no mirroring shortcuts)
• Animations: Idle, Walk/Movement, Basic Attack
• Weapon: One sword sprite integrated into attack animation
• Outline: Clean black outline
• Rendering: Pixel-perfect, no anti-aliasing
• Alpha: Straight alpha, fully transparent background (no halos)
• Anchoring: Sprites anchored at the feet
• Designed for future paper-doll layering (armor, equipment, effects)
Directional clarity and readability are critical. North-facing sprites represent characters facing away from the camera; South-facing sprites face toward the camera.
Visual reference for directional readability and tactical staging: Ogre Battle 64 (reference for perspective and facing clarity only, not stylistic imitation).
Required Skills & Experience
• Demonstrated experience with pixel-art character animation
• Comfortable producing true 8-direction sprite sets
• Strong understanding of directional intent (e.g., correct SE/SW vs NE/NW orientation)
• Experience working at fixed pixel resolutions without scaling artifacts
• Familiarity with tactical or strategy game readability is a strong plus
Pipeline & File Delivery
• Source files required in Aseprite (.aseprite) or equivalent pixel-art formats (e.g., .kra, .psd, .gale) with layered, editable frames
• Final runtime deliverables provided as PNG files (lossless, transparent)
• Source files will be reviewed for structure and exportability; PNG files are considered the in-engine deliverables
• No JPEGs or flattened-only source files
Compensation
This is a paid commission.
Expected compensation range (based on experience and quality):
• $350–$600 for solid, production-usable work
• $600–$1,200 for foundation-quality work suitable for long-term pipeline use
Final compensation will be agreed upon before work begins.
