Hello there, Pixel Joint.
Now, let me start by saying this. I'm not a pixel artist, I can do a minor edit or two to an existing image, but aside from that, I can't pixel. However, I've searched the internet high and low for a good pixel community, and this forum seemed to be the most to my liking.
I'm hiring up to four pixel artists for a 2D game I'm working on. Its a fairly big, ambitious project, but I've got about 2 and a half years experience with the program I work on. Sadly I have no fully completed projects.
Here's some specs on the project and pixel artist expecations, just to give you an idea of what's needed.
- The game is 2D.
- It is not Isometric.
- Lighting is scripted, not built into the graphics.
- Good pixel art experience is reccomended.
- Must be capable of making large objects.
- Must be capable of making small details.
- Must be capable of adapting to the graphics style Im using.
- Need to make use of about 4 frames of animation per object.
- Must be imaginative, sometimes what I need is pretty vague.
- Job consists of mostly edits of premade graphics, however, I also need quite a few original things too.
Sadly, you will not be paid for this project. However, I will put all of the willing pixel artists in the games credits, and if its ok with everyone, I'll even flash the Pixel Joint logo and site URL on the screens before the main menu.
Now, if you'd like to know more about me...
- I'm 14, although I take grade 11 courses.
- I am seriously considering a job in the Game Industry.
- I have 2+ years experience with the program I use to make games.
- I have about 1 years experience with scripting Ruby, RGSS, HTML, and I'm currently learning XML and C++.
- Though I'm bad on the computer, in real life I'm quite a good artist, perhaps I'll post some of my work later.
- Me and a couple friends are working on a company website for this game.
- I am also working with some other people on an Online RPG.
- I can play an accoustic guitar fairly well, and if I get a better mic, I'll probably compose some of my own music for my game.
Do you have a company?
Not yet, but as mentioned above, I am working on a company website.
Are you currently employed?
At a Pizza Restaurant owned by one of my parent's friends.
Will I be paid if I help you?
Sorry, but no. However, you'll be credited, you'll help advertise the Pixel Joint forum, and when the game is released, (I'll release it on about 17 very large forums) you'll be glad you were a part of it.
What is your email address?
Its in my profile; but if you dont want to check..
Enterthesublime [at] Hotmail [dot] Com
Do you have and Instant Messengers?
Yes. Windows Live, Google Talk, and I am downloading Trillian as I type this.
Do you have any previous projects?
Unfortunatly my hard drive was erased about a month ago.
May I see what the graphics in your current project look like?
Sort of. I have some screenshots of a previous project on my Photobucket, but it uses the exact same graphic style as my current game.

Please dont think I'm asking for extremely proffessional graphics with shade and everything as seen in those screenshots. Those are simple effects I can program into the game, not the graphics themselves. The first screenshot is a good example of the graphics style I use without any graphical overlays or special effects. If you would like to help with this project, email me, add me to your instant messenger, (I'm on Windows Live the most) or just post here.
