I read a book in 7th or 8th grade that takes place during either WWI or WWII and I really would like to check it out again.  I read it as part of my assigned reading in school so I figured some of you youngsters might have read it recently...

My memory of the book is really scattered mostly because I read dozens of war books, but I remember one part where the protaganist is stuck in a trench with the enemy and he sees that he is very much like him.  I know that's not much to go on, but I really can't remember anything else specific.

This is probobly a dumb question, actually, I have 3 dumb questions.

1. Do you still live in the place where you grew up? (7th or 8th grade)

2. Do you remember the name of your teacher or if he/she is still alive?

3. Where you in honors or regulars? (Hell, I don't know if they seperated it back when you where in school (not that i'm calling you old,))

I never read books, but since you said there was a trench, there is a big possibility that is was in WWI. WWII is more the war of moving fronts, so there wasn't really place for trenches.

Garage:

1) Naw and I wouldn't go to my old Junior High if I did. I'm much too lazy for that kind of effort.
2) Are my teachers alive? How the hell old do you think I am?
3) Honors classes have been around for decades, but a lot of schools don't have that for Junior High (mine didn't).

Brian the Great: That's true. I'm not so sure it was a trench... could've been a bunker, foxhole or something else.

Edit: Oops, I replied to the wrong person.

I think the only book I read that was remotely related to war was Slaughterhouse 5

Oh it has to be All Quiet on the Western Front. I read that last year in 10th grade, and there's a scene just like you described.I love that book.
