started working on this game. im doing graphics and programing at the same time so the tiles and gameplay will hopefully both improve together... you may notice a complete lack of a goal or storyline but i think i have that coverd (art) anyways...

answer me these questions 3... ok more than 3

[*]the basic ground and dirt tiles will stay as is in that style
[*]i am going to improve the pencil spikes, any ideas?
[*]the game sprites will be changed slightly to be a bit more detailed but kept simular again ideas?
[*]i need more ideas for differnt tiles
[*]do you think i need a tile for the edge of platforms or do you think the squareness adds to the style?
    [*]and any other cnc?

oh yeah ignore title screen thats defo gunna b changed

Pretty Awesome, the  character needs a bit of shading and the coins would do better being rounder

Hah, that looks awesome. I think you should up the framerate a little... it feels somewhat slow and choppy now.

Why coins and a chest of gold? Make something to go with the theme. Like little squares of butter and a bottle of milk (or maybe the milk bottle could be his (?) girlfriend he's trying to save) or something, lol.

I really dig this though. Especially the pencils in the ground and the toast with the crown (what are you supposed to do with him though?). When (if) you add other moves it would be good to add an instructions screen with key combinations for the moves and such.

UPDATE!!!! ta daaaa

http://www.xaoss.com/uploads/game.html - LINKAGE

ok i have added a kind of edge tile i will work on that more as my engine doesnt alow me to overlay tiles only objects so the edge has to fill up the whole square or you get a gap.

i have updated sprites!!! juicebox, king of toast and jam

the king of toast has speach! now you know what hes for and some of the storyline.

(a note- it has recently come to my attention that my charicter the king of toast is verry close to the charicter the toast king from some sort of cartoon, the two are connected in no way)

also coins have shine...

oh and start and end screen will be updated at the end with instructions etc

frame rate has been upped

@mirre: i was thinking bits of butter... but as u can now see the aim is to rescue the kings butter... which got stole.. so haveing lots of it about wouldnt be that good.

@snader: i will look into makeing it 2x in flash ... without me manualy haveing to resize all tiles and then change tilesize to 64 in code
erm that is all for now... keep your comms and crits comeing :)

Yeah it's really fun so far. You should fix the jumping. You might fix the holding the spacebar issie, make them press it each time they want to jump.

Great job. Loverly graphics for the most part. The treasure chest does not quite have the same style to me. On the plus side its Mac friendly so on that alone its awesome.

yer think about it, there's no reason a plumber should be collecting coins (or treasure), so making a juicebox collect them isn't that strange. They're just obvious markers for things of value, an' I don't see anything wrong with them. Who knows, maybe milk could be the enemy to a juicebox! Wouldn't wanna get it, then :P

Gotta say I love this little demo. The sprites and animations are cute and clear, and the tiles follow very much the same theme. Well done thus far, I look forward to seein' more.

Sweet game! .. and finally a fellow mac user who shares my pain of unreadable .exe files! (crap windows.. grumble grumble..)

Really motivates me to make a game of my own :D I love the coins though, keep them!

For some reason the coins look like their bouncing back and forth rather then rotating.

I think they look fine... I love the way you lighted them! makes them look like they cave in around the center... very classy in my opinion :D
