i dont understand!? Stop using the line tool. As in the tool that makes lines. You know, the tool creating an infinite amount of points between two points of your choosing.
Your edges are very angular because of this line tool dependence. I agree that you should become acquainted with the pencil tool and make more organic, natural shapes before these harsh edges become a bad habit.

i think the straight lines are sorta a stylistic thing that doesn't necassary hurt the peice. depends if they are intentional or laziness....

Cool , reminds me a bit of Tetsuo from the movie Akira.
Ear is too low, hair shouldnt connect to the jawline at the bottom like that, needs a neck.

You should dullen the lines in the hair as they get close to the face, they are too stark right now.

Yeah sure just a sec, I'll do an edit...

Really simple edit; basically just AA'd the highlights in the hair, and faded them towards his forehead.

The harsh look is really just not aesthetically pleasing. It makes it look rigged, and the colors are really bland, but that's something you can take care of later. I'd also suggest shading with flat colors rather than dithering for now, because if you want to change something about the shading later then you'll probably have to redither all of it.

The teeth really need some shading, and not just the few pixels of grey you have now. I also think the piece would look better if you replaced the black outlines by http://www.zoggles.co.uk/asp/tutorials.asp?tut=8&page=19 - selout , or at least a darker colour.
The background is pretty nice.

Shade the teeth, do the eyebrows, and get rid of the black outline on the ear.

The eye looks too plain now. I think you may need a pupil.
