I would really like some critique on this, and it is still in the very early stages, but I just wanted some opinions, and help, possibly. Maybe some guidance or tutorials..

I'm not TOO good at animating.. And it has a 3 frame limit since I'm working with rpg maker, it's just a little for fun thing I'm doing on my spare time. The first sprite there is the idle stance, the second is the beginning of his attack animation, here's where my problem comes in - How on earth do I animate that slashing..? I've tried a couple of times, and I erased them since I thought they were too terrible.
He's supposed to lean forward with a semi-horizontal, semi-vertical slash. I would deeply appreciate some advice or something, and I'm sorry if this is sort of a stupid question.
Just for the record - This is for an isometric battle system, like breath of fire.

Well if it's a 3 frame animation then I suggest you don't have the "idle" pose. And just go straight to the beginning of the attack.
That way he just goes from idle image to attack. And that way you can use two more frames for the attack.

Hi there Mowzr, welcome to the forum. Nice character you've got going there. So as I understand it you have 3 frames to animate the slashing attack? I would do: 1 - Sword raised, ready to swing 2 - Sword swung with a slight motion-trail of it in the air 3 - Sword still moving through the swing, just a little bit, to show deceleration.
Hell I might as well pixel an example, one moment while I do it...
EDIT: Hope this helps;

Oh wow thanks :D. I didnt even consider doing it that way for some reason.. Hmm.. Wow I really appreciate it. Thanks for the welcome as well, I'm fairly active on the PJ site but not until now in the forums. I shall try this.
I'm open to other suggestions still, though.
The visual example really helped :).
