Hello all...

This is my first post, so please be gentle.  We recently took over operation of the Pixeltees site (for those not familar, check out http://www.pixeltees.com - www.pixeltees.com ).  Right now, we are undergoing a massive update to bring it current and will be bringing out a bunch of new features in Q1 of 07.

I thought it may be worthy to get some feedback from the community to make sure we are on track - Especially those here who have used the site before or even those who haven't.  Save for the really technical details, here's a few of the major areas of focus:

  • Rebuilding the T-Shirt Machine entirely in Flash (Not everyone loves the Shockwave plug-in).
  • Raising the Commission payouts program for Artists (basically you'll be able to define your own profit margins and pricing).
  • Changing the entire Printing Process - New equipment for Direct to Garment printing - Better quality tees overall...
  • Greatly expanding our product offering - It won't just be white tees anymore.  New colors, styles, and more.
  • Doing everything possible to get International shipping rates DOWN.
  • Offering more payment / payout methods (paypal, ACH, etc.)
  • Oh yeah... and Promoting the hell out of the site.

Actually, we have about a 25 page spec that has been put together for all of the upcoming changes, but again... I'd love to just hear everyone's thoughts / opinions / ideas / complaints... whether or not you are familiar with the site.

Anyway, thanks in advance for your time!

Awesome dude! Good to hear it's gunna be up and running again.

Personally i'd like to see only pixel-art stuff on there, or at least not obvious photographs or cgi stuff, as i've seen alot of that around. And perhaps even a way to make the tees have more of a quality requirement or something, as lately i've seen great stuff get drowned by random scribbles.

Lol, but that's personal taste i guess.

Good luck with managing Pixeltees!

One thing I'd like is for transparent gifs to be allowed.
I couldn't figure out how to make a transparent image look transparent so only that part was printed on the shirt.

I have always hated that the shirts only come in white, but that's pretty much all I remember not liking about it.

Souly: All you had to do is use the eraser tool...

Not at all!  I completely agree.  We are going to clean up the DB considerably.  Most of the CG and Photo stuff will be given a completely different site of its own.  Our goal is to keep the Pixel Art pure on Pixeltees.

Yep, this was definitely a problem in the old Shirt Machine.  We are going to include support for transparancy - which will also be important now that we are introducing color shirts into the mix.  (otherwise, every image will have this odd white masking on color shirts).  Good call on this one though... I will double check to make sure this wasn't missed.

Thank you very much for the reply!

I don't like that you can't upload a piece of pixel art that you've already made for a shirt.

I guess that's a good thing though.. prevents against copyright infringement.

but then again I haven't been on pixeltees in a year or so... maybe it's changed and I look like a dumbass. :P

Actually you can do this!   But it's not very well documented (not to mention it completely messes up in the current Shirt Machine).  If you hold down the SHIFT key, while clicking on the Paste tool... it will pop up a warning about NOT copying other's work and then pastes from the system clipboard.

We definitely need to let people know it's there though (and fix the bugs). I would imagine that many Pixel Artists would want to use their past work.

Color shirts... and new styles!  I think we have about 20 types of shirts (i.e. baseball jersey, baby dolls, tank tops, kids shirts, etc).  We are also checking out the heavier weight stuff for printing... Like sweatshirts and hoodies.  Plus you will have the option of deciding which products you want to make available for your Pixel Art.

Color shirts change everything.
Will whites in art be whites regardless of shirt color?

As a matter of fact...Yes!  We have totally changed the printing process, so we will have no problems with light colors (or white) on a dark color shirt...  We are going to save images in the system with the ability to specify a color (other than white) for transparency.

The old method was to do "heat transfers"... kinda a glorified "iron-on" system.

But, we are switching to a completely new print system that uses new "direct to garment" technology.  Much better than silk screening in many ways, the t-shirt basically gets loaded into an oversized inkjet printer loaded with special pigment dye inks.  It's extremely precise and can handle an amazing range of color.

Wow.
Will you ever do bags?, I hate cafepress/spreadshirt bags.
Will you keep your old database or will everyone have to sign up again?
