I'm having difficulty opening AVIs in my Quicktime. It says that some software it required and it shows me http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html - THIS PAGE but i have no idea which component to install to help me view AVIs.

Can anyone tell me which one they installed that worked or reccomend a free video converter that will convert these into mp4s?

monkeys

Macs hate avis's. The way Microsoft designed their compression is crap. Stay away from them. Quicktime will ALWAYS give you that dialog because it will not read them. RealPlayer can occassionally play an avi on a mac but not if the person made them did not export as 'for mas too'  <---- very rare

Get the following:
http://perian.org/ - Perian
A plug-in that allows you to "Play almost anything in QuickTime".

Or:

Uh no they can do that just not the Windows OS based GUI. It can do MAC based GUI's.

I'd smash any mac to pieces if it assaulted me as I was getting out of bed.
