Hi all....just recently got into pixel art.  I have been drawing and painting for many years and now am trying my hand at pixel art.

Would love some constructive criticism on this piece I made.  One of my first attempts.

Thanks

I'm getting a broken image. You can probably use one you have in the gallery, as long as you don't use that elsewhere. A good pixel art image host is http://imagehost.ensellitis.com - Ensellitis image hosting .

EDIT: Typo

Real nice. You do have a lot of extra colors that you could do without.

Thanks....yeah I think the color count was like 45....I guess I should lower it a bit.

One thing I am really struggling with is realistic lighting.  I understand the concept of a light source and how it effects the subject but when it comes to applying it to a pixel piece I find it very difficult to make it look realistic.

Any tips?

Mmm, for that you will have to look at a lot of art, they can be normal drawings, pixelart, even photographs. Study were the lights and shadows are, I don't think there is a set rule , but you will want to use dark and light colors to give the sensation of depht. With a lot of practice and studying art you will eventually get it and do it naturaly

I don't think this piece requires realistic lighting. This cartoony style lighting works really well on this. Leave realism for realistic scenes/pixelart, imo.
