I don't know if anyone remembers it, but I once did a http://nfggames.com/games/MarioSprites/ - Mario Sprite History that was well received.

I've completed a new one:

http://nfggames.com/games/SonicSprites/ - Sonic Sprite History .

It was a rather significant effort, dredging up those awful old Master System games was a Herculean trial. ;)

(and if this sort of thing is your speed, I also did a http://nfggames.com/games/CastlevaniaSprites - Castlevania Sprite History )

Great work here! It would be great if you could dig up some artist names.

idk... i liked the sprites in sonic advance and battle. the only reason i dont like the old ones as much is cause they made him look kinda fat

Well the original Sonic ate alot of chilli dogs. If you have seen the old cartoon you would know this. Also the age seems different in the new Sonic games he looks much more teenish. I doubt the same artist made the GBA graphics.

"Sonic was a bit sketchy, without the clearly defined shape and charm of old. None of the GameBoy releases really captured the magic, the new games seemed remade for a generation that no longer cared. Despite animating the new Sonic much more smoothly, with many more animation frames, they took shortcuts that resulted in a very ugly sprite. "

I agree with that statement totally. The sonic games don't feel like the original ones they feel much more choppy and the special loop parts seem forced. I'm tired of little 12 year old sonic fans that have never played the original games ON THE MEGADRIVE/GENESIS.

*EDIT *( I didn't realize you were 12 kid, just taking a stab in the dark, sorry)

No, Sonic Underground was pure garbage. This was way befor that. The original show aired in the early 1990's.
