Hello there. You seem to have a habit of gradient-shading, which is especially prominant in the first image, the second one is a bit better, but still fraught with it; you need to pay more attention to the 3D form of the things you are shading.

Here's a bit of a quick edit to give you an idea of the planes:

He has no feet.. and I dunno, it still seems like you just shaded everything like cylinders.  The clothes are never this stiff and solid looking, add some folds, wrinkles.

I think the princess could use some added contrast and she has rather boring lines. They're boring because you have two vertical lines that persist throuth the sprite. Try adding some puff to the skirt and bend to the arms to fix that problem.
 
You also have some unneeded colors. There's a grey for the eyebrows that's not needed and the blue of the eyes isn't either; you can't really make it out if you're not specifically trying to tell what color the eyes are. Try a green instead, one from the dress.
