I really don't want to do AA but if all else fails ya know I might.

Okay so I know this needs allot of work but I know y'all will help!  So I'm going to say thanks in advance .

Also keep in mind that the color of the skin and hair are not true to real life people but I ment for them to be those colors, though the shading, heh I won't go there.

Also before saying anything that would hurt my feelings, this is based off of a picture of myself

Other than the OTT eyelashes.
Your lips on the picture are more like  this    /   \
In the pixel you have this   <  >
By this I mean the corners of the lips.

you are too caught up in what things should look like rather than what they do look like.
....that sounds kind of nuts but you have to look at how the different parts of the face are formed rather than how you think they are formed.

i don't think i'm explaining this well. maybe i'll do an edit later.

and for comparison http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b265/KiddoURL/Pic-3.png">
Changed lots of things to give you an idea about improving the likeness.  I think if you do anything, the eyelashes must go first - i guess you wanted to stylize it, but it just doesn't look good, to be frank.   Also, I upped the contrast of the shading to make the face seem more 3 dimentional, and i think it adds interest too.. I added some colors, but only because i didnt want to dither and such.  And also, hopefully I got the lips right.  I think the key to that was to make the bottom lip be an (almost) straight line rather than a curve.  then the upper lip is more like /  \ like jalonso said.

other things I just don't feel like typing out, but hopefully you'll see in my edit.  I really don't think you need me to spell everything out for you.

I'd suggest you get 'Drawing on the right side of your brain' book, it helps tremendously with observational drawings.  Like what akira was saying - draw what you SEE not what you think you SHOULD see.

Also, even though in the reference the roots are darker, imo it'll look inconsistent if you keep the highlights at the bottom and shadows at the top - it contradicts the light source on the face.

That's it I think :)  Good luck, this was such a blast to edit!
