Im an iso'er, and I don't draw much...so 2d and I don't get along very well :(

I also want to break myself out of drawing side-views, so I might try some sort of perspective.

I think the palette lacks interest, what about some hue shifting in the green ramp ?
Also, you might want to add some lil details here and there for it to look less flat >.<

Need some inspiration ?

Im with you on the palette. I just adjusted brightness, I never touched the hue. I actually had a quick try at details earlier, but it didnt quite work out lol. Im going to have another go at it.

I'm actually way ahead of you on the metal slug thing. Im not looking to copy, just learn from....hopefully.

I'll probably post an update later.

Hmmmmmmmmm more colours or dithering? MOR COLARS.
(well, at least in the lighter side of the ramp)

Nice detail in the tread-bit-thing. I think if you want to carry that detail onto the other tank-bit-thing yu should deff check out sommor refs.

Changing the sideview perspective a little would also make it more interesting..

[Lol, i totally ignored all the other text in this thread]

My name is jalonso and I too am an iso'er. I will say this to you because you probably will understand it. When I make any non-iso pixel my brain still functions the same. Choosing the pixels come from the brains image of where they would be if you extrude to the the isogrid except there's no 'figuring out' to do. It works.

Update in the first post. (you should see 3 now)

I changed up the colors, details and cut down on the dither.

Perspective is something im going to tackle next. Maybe after a quick anim.

Not quite sure what you mean jalonso.

My brain doesn't quite work the same, as with iso you already have perspective and shading done for you. To me it's like the difference between playing with an etch-a-sketch and a box of legos.

One thing to note is that when a tank or any other weapon of war fires, the shot causes the whole thing to move to various extent.  Maybe youre going to do that, and if so I am sorry.  But if not, having the gun recoiling is nice, but that task would make the tank go back a little bit.  Hope that helps!

Love the idea of tanks...I draw WWII tanks and would love to see someone animate mine.

Super Rod, you fished those colours up nicely. :) They are actually really nice.

Jack's right, the whole tank should recoil. I always find it nice to see alot of exaggerated movement with these sorts of things :)

I updated my first post with a perspective attempt. Just a basic square tank-ish thing. I think I fudged the tracks though...as far as accuracy, so im not sure if it's worth saving or trying again.

As to my animation, Im still planning to update both the recoil and smoke.

I decided to keep going rather than start over. A bunch of tweaks later and its actually starting to take shape...though no details yet.

That second angled one is sweet. A bit of the 'Rustbug' look to it.

Thanks jal. Rustbug eh? It's probably the barrel.

I also added some more texture/details.

Working on animating the second one. I added a cartoon-ish squish/recoil. I'll add a fire animation later.

I'm sure you know of the glitch with the way the gun casing is removed from the animation. I still found both animations mesmerizing and have spent minutes on it.

Just updated and added the 2nd animation to my gallery
http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/18409.htm - http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/18409.htm

Not sure if i'll update the first or not. I was also thinking about throwing this into a mockup of some type (basically adding a bg).... though I need a quick break after all that animation lol.

Maybe the tank can shoot at a boar in the woods

Working on some sort of BG. It may or may not include such things as snow/destroyed buildings/rubble etc.

Im still kinda experimenting at this point. Once I get a clear direction i'll texture/detail it.

edit: Sorry jal...no boar lol
