whew, drawing a boar is hard. I think the lines will be my biggest problem

Is there no color restriction?

I planned on taking a little break from the weekly contest, but this simpler, smaller, and more straightforward challenge seems less stressful.

I already have a 150x150 boar in my gallery :D But that's not gonna stop me from entering this one. Must it be only a boar? Or could we ... say give it a rider?

I got my idea down, not sure what do do about the bg though..

I think I'm going to post this in the wip section for some comments..

@Cure: Your last week, last minute entry was awesome.

As I've said before, I really just want to try to submit something every week. I think I'm going to draw a lot of inspiration from Hayao Miyazaki's boar characters in Princess Mononoke. Although, I might try to add my own brand of humour to it.

We'll see.

Thanks to the both of you.  I liked yours from the get-go, iSTVAN, the humor was wonderful.  And I can only began to wonder what buloght could have contributed.

As for this challenge, I'd thought it seemed right up buloght's alley, even before I remembered the piece in his gallery.  I expect you to enter something nice this time.

No problem Cure, and cheers!

Interesting direction Ens! It looks nearly like a colour reduction, for some reason. It would be nice to have atleast a miniture pig shape created in the lines that make up the background- just for added effect.

@Buloght: Damn straight!

I think we can go smaller, it's 150x150 max, not 150x150.

I think the tail looks weird, just like its coming out of the bottom half of his behind, not the upper half

OK i redid the colors and tail and a bit of everything. Any better?

Nice WIP Ens! I wasn't accusing you of colour reduction, just making an observation, as I'm sure you know.

AP: Pretty simplistic so far, both technically and conceptually. I think I liked the tail the way it was before.

Possum the first tail is better. Try to develop a BG or frame that adds some WOW factor. The challenge here seems to be making a boar unboaring

Cool idea ens. I looked at that Chinese character but guess its now out.

...a boar, hmmm...

The Wild Boar (Sus scrofa) is the wild ancestor of the domesticated pig. It lives in woodlands in central Europe, the Mediterranean regions, across southern Asia and as far as Indonesia. Animals similar to the wild boar include the warthog of Africa and the peccary or javelina of the American Southwest; but these animals do not share the pig's taxonomic genus.

Tremulant: That is looking pretty darn fantastic, waiting for you to upload so I can fav. It looks a like a poodle-boar :D I love the unified colours and the smoke blowing.

ISTVAN: Awesome as usual!

df0: That is superb, so nostaligic, the atmosphere is mind-blowing.

dragonrc: I love how that is turning out.

ensellites: awesome :D, love the lanterns! Your idea is too unique

AwesomePossum: I'd say definitely better, great work.

Lollige: Hehe, miss piggy.

Klav: That's gonna end up great!

spider boy: That's an awesome idea, haha.

Wonderful WIP's everyone!

I'm finding the weekly challenge thread organization quite weird though.. Wouldn't it be easier to make a weekly challenge board with all the previous (locked) challenges in it, and the current one stickied?

Thanks guys! I made an update, which is hopefully sex ('cause I think I'm pretty much done working on this). CnC is way more than welcome though... I want this to be as good as it can...

This thing's getting to be pretty sexified. All the entries are looking sweet.

Jal: I dunno how I missed your entry for the last challenge, but it's friggin' hot and I'm glad, nay, honoured to have played some part in it's conception.

Buloght: Thanks  I'm hoping you'll enter this one, too. Your stuff is so great, it shames me, and usually ends up making me cry a bit. Why must you hate me!?

Dopple: I love your colours to death. Maybe it's 'cause I was playing it recently, but for some reason it reminds me of tomba (minus the pink hair).

Spider boy: haha cool idea and pretty great execution. Poor guy; he looks so helpless...

df0: Kinda hoping you'll, like... spontaneously combust or something, 'cause that thing is badass and will probably rape my entry. I both damn and praise you.

Dragonrc: Haha that worries me. Nice.

Ens: Really, really loving the light flickering thing you've got going, and the smothness of the whole piece.

Possum: Nice improvement. Just add some highlights and that'll make for a pretty tasty piggy.

Klav: Angriest. Boar. Ever. Nice stuff. Especially love the curly smoke.

Lollige: Great likeness, though Miss Piggy always frightened me a bit...

Istvan: I really like yours a lot. Very much makes me wish I'd had a more original concept...

Posted By: Doppleganger
Date Posted: 23 February 2007 at 9:06am
Now Tomba is a great game! I always think about it every now and again. I can see how Tomba, although it's in the reaches of my mind, could've played a role in that characters development.

Trem:
The texture on the boar is top notch stuff. if I had one complaint, and I really don't. It would be that the foliage in the background lacks depth. I mean it has it, but it just looks like it's one giant bush going across all the trees that you can see. Where as the trunks display depth, the leaves only show depth on the plane closest to us, if that makes sense.

the shadow comming from the right(red side) should be blue, because all that exists in that area is blue light. the shadow comming the other way should be red.  the overlaping shadow should be black, because no light esists in that area.

I love the flicker.
