Does anyone know why this was rejected? I would like some feedback.

It doesn't look all that bad, but I have a few pointers for you to make it look better.

- Are those white things supposed to be clouds? If so, google search some real satellite photos of earth and you'll see that they're much more swirly than the ones you made. They also have a lower opacity and cover larger areas.

- Your colors seem too saturated. I suggest choosing a darker, less saturated blue and just lowering the saturation on everything else too. Make sure the blue and green look good together.

- You didn't anti alias this, and doing so will probably improve the general look of this piece. You can use a light blue to smoothen out the difference between land and deep sea, and a light blue to anti alias the clouds.

- Where is your light source? If you've decided on one, it hasn't been defined enough. You're pretty much shading in from light to dark, from outside to inside, which is what we call pillow shading. Pillow shading isn't a good way to shade, so find a real light source and keep in mind that in space, areas go from light to dark pretty quickly! (think of the difference between night and day)

I hope I helped,
ceddo.

I did not send this back to you, but was going to. I had a lot to point out and left it in the queue for later. Amazingly I was going to say pretty much what ceddo just wrote. Thx ceddo.

ps: I really liked the idea of the earth day pixel and you were the only member to do something for this. I really wished it had been acceptable in time (old hippie bug).

AA? Ah, I forgot. >.> Ok. I'll rework the clouds too.

I dunno, but it really looks like the earth IS pillow shaded.

Thanks for offering your help

I guess you could use that one, but it's much more interesting in art to use a clear light source.

This is the best one I could find - apparently, NASA prefers taking their pictures when they only see daylight :)

Better?

I haven't changed the colors yet, but I can't get the damn AA straight! *mad*

I did a quick and pretty choppy edit with no consideration for the color count to show you how you can make the atmosphere glow without resorting to pillow shading:

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.  I can spend hours AAing the life out of everything :D

This is simply good.
You could add more lightblue spots to the clouds i would say.
That would make those clouds more alive.

Yeah, I'm still not done, and I'll try (probably not successfully) to make the atmoshphere better.

Edit: Oops, almost forgot the light source thing.

Any other suggestions?
