CHALLENGE: Character Selection Menu

This week's challenge is brought to us by weekly challenge winner ../../../../p/9684.htm" onmouseout="dhm() - kakikukeko . Mockup a character selection menu of a game of your own. It can be any kind of game, puzzle game, beat them all, platform or whatever..

Rules:
  • You have to show (at least) one character and its name.
  • The character select must be a living character -- not a ship or other type of vehicle.
  • Size MUST BE 240x160 (can't be vertical) .. you can work half rez if you want (or mix some full rez/ half rez element), but your final picture must be 240*160.
  • Up to 64 colors
Here are a few examples, from the  simplistic look of http://skwiz.free.fr/pixelchallenge/sonic.png - sonic or http://skwiz.free.fr/pixelchallenge/metal.png - metal slug (sorry gba version ^^) to the hardcore http://skwiz.free.fr/pixelchallenge/street.png - SFA3 ....  don't stick to those, there are so many other kind of menus...  good luck!

CHALLENGE RULES

  • Participants have until this upcoming Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) to /pixels/submit_icons.asp'>submit their entry (strict). Don't forget to check the 'Submit to weekly challenge' checkbox.
  • Only new pixels allowed.
  • Open to all members.
  • Posting WIPs in this thread or in new threads in the /forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=8'>WIP section is highly encouraged, but ONLY SUBMIT YOUR FINAL ART.

CHALLENGE JUDGING

  • Every Sunday at midnight (12AM Pacific) the previous week's entries are judged.
  • Every week a new voting poll will be posted for previous week's entries.
  • Winner announced the following week.

CHALLENGE PRIZES/GOODIES

  • Top three finishers will receive an award displayed in your PJ gallery profile for all to see and envy.
  • Top finisher gets to call the following week's challenge...sweet.
  • 'Participation' ribbons will be given for all who enter.
  • No matter what happens you get challenged :)

three reasons for that,
*I really suck at characters/sprites..

*I like to have an idea of how will look the picture before starting the details..

*I like to finish by the best

I can pretty much guarantee that I will not get this finished in time (ever?) but I thought I'd at least take a stab at the challenge.

Just working on composition, roughing out the characters, starting on outlines and attempting to pixel my text by hand. So C&C on any of those aspects would be cool.

* I always find that aspect of pixelart fascinating. Its very evenly divided so end result is not affected by either process.

I concur. This looks really nice so far Anlina S.

I also like how Setzer's is coming along with the colouring. I'd really like to make something for this if I had the time :(

Elk: Swish. I love the dynamic angle and colours. Very impressive

AdamPlays: Style looks novel, nice idea.

Setz: Sweet design, nice colours, looking good so far.

Kakikukeko: Awesome little scrolling test and arrows.

Anlina: Wonderful design so far, super anatomy.

Mil: Great idea and theme. The palette suits. And the face works well.

Loop: Very childish, great colours, works perfectly.

Oooh, some really slick work coming in for this challenge.

I don't know if I'll have time to finish, but I wanted to go for a selection screen where the background fades out and back in when you change characters... hard to explain. :P

Art_Sempai: You have a really neat thing going there - I think if you tweaked your palettes a bit you could make it that much better. The super saturated orange you have outlining the hair could use some toning down, I think making it less saturated would do wonders for the definition of her face, since she has those blonde eyebrows/eyelashes. I think another skin tone to use as an outline would be a good addition - all the other parts of her are outlined, which makes the skin kind of disappear into her hair by comparison.

Kakikukeko, that's awesome. I don't think it's overdone atall, and the fact he's pointing in the direction of the sprite is great. Also, what's wrong with tom cruise? Lol... I don't think he looks like him anyway.

Well, this definitely will not be finished in time for the challenge, but here is my WIP anyway. It can't even throw a wimpy punch at some of the spectacular mock-ups in here, but... D:



OMG WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED IT WOULD BE NERRIK AGAIN 8)

The sprite is giving me such a hard time. Urgh. I thought I might just show you guys my first ever mock-up. 8D;; I added the age/race stats there just for fun; they take up a lot of room, and the basic stats will probably be what stays (atk, spd, def.) I don't know if I'll add the hat to the portrait; I will probably, though, just for sake of continuity with the sprite. I just like drawing him without it.

Yeah, very boring, sorry. There will probably be a forest background once I finish the portrait and sprite, but... mmmmm. :/

what we got here are some great pixel art works... :D it'll de ahrd to chose the winner

i like:

-Wish04: this style look a lot like RO... :P and i'm a fan of RO

-Mil: his work looks great, i wish he finish it... i definitvly like this one too, castlevania style
 
-Loop: cartoonish style, very clean i'm waiting for seen how he will put the character selection..
 
-Setzer: what this guy got in mind is very diferent is not a nnormal selectio nscreen, also clean
